Maha Ashtami is considered special as it is perceived that Goddess Durga attained power on this day.
On this festive day, people complete various rituals at Dashain Ghars and holy sites. They also sacrifice animals and offer them to the goddesses at various shrines.
The pilgrims chant the Durga Saptashati scriptures when they throng various goddess shrines. The worshipping starts in the Kathmandu Valley from early morning today, and worshippers even offer ducks as sacrificial animals.
Special Worship and prayer ceremonies are held at Dashain Ghars, where pilgrims also worship tools that range from weapons, vehicles, and machines.
People, who don’t wish to sacrifice animals, offer veggies and fruits instead of killing animals. On this day, a special Kalaratri worshiping ceremony is conducted at midnight. This is done at Dashain Ghar of Hanumandhoka in Kathmandu.

The inflation rate has dropped by 2.55 percent from the 6.15 percent in FY 2019/20. This is probably the lowest annual average price rise in the last two decades.
The improvement in inflation rate last fiscal is mainly attributed to the uptick in prices of edible oils, pulses, and legumes.

Ghee and Oil | 17.54% |
Pulses and Legumes | 10.65% |
Tobacco Products | 9.83% |

As per NRB, the rise in edible oil prices is mainly due to the increase in price of raw materials in the international market.
The Himalayan nation imports almost all the oilseeds to meet the demand of its domestic markets.
Likewise, the inflation rate of non-food and services stood at 2.51 percent in FY 2020/21, down from 4.61 percent in FY 2019/20.

]]>However, the exams will be held only after COVID-19 vaccination arrangements are made for class 12 students.
The NEB said that they are ready to conduct the examination before Dashain if the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) allows it.
The Board also confirmed that 15 days prior notification will be issued for the students after receiving approval from the CCMC.
Last week, the Parliament’s Education and Health Committee has recommended the NEB to conduct the Grade 12 exams promptly, for the repeated postponements would negatively impact the students.
Education Ministry Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya blamed the CCMC for postponing the Grade 12 Exams at the last moment.
“All students in the Kathmandu Valley sitting for the tests were vaccinated against COVID-19.”
“Both the Board and the Ministry are in favor of holding the tests,” he added.
The NEB recently postponed the class 12 examinations, which were scheduled to start from Shrawan 31, upon recommendation from the CCMC.
As the exam has already been postponed twice, the NEB stated that it is working on a schedule to ensure that the examination does not have to be rescheduled again.

]]>As per the Home Ministry, the Chief District Officers of all districts were directed to curb religious gatherings. The directive comes hot on the heels of the numerous religious gatherings on the sacred Hindu festival Janai Purnima.
Innumerable Hindus have started visiting the Pashupati temple today. The holy site had not witnessed such a massive attendance in two years as COVID-19 cases surged at that time. The government opined that such festivities could lead to massive infections.
Tomorrow, another set of festivities is lined up for Newari people in Kathmandu Valley and other cities to celebrate the Gai Jatra festival. All the festivities are happening in full swing despite Kathmandu Valley being on partial lockdown.

Phanindra Pokharel, Joint Secretary at Home Ministry, stated that government didn’t want the festivities to become the epicenter of infections. “As we are no longer in the mood to impose blanket lockdown, we are discussing ways to impose a smart lockdown, which will be based on scientific methods,” Pokharel said.
The smart lockdown would label the areas with higher infection rates as zones ranging from red to green, with red being the most infected area and green being safe. The labeling will be done on various parameters, which range from infection rate to mortality rate.

]]>According to the National Education Board (NEB), 24 schools across Nepal have given ‘A’ and ‘A+’ grades to their students even without including the practical subjects.
Schools in all the three districts of Kathmandu Valley have granted ‘A’ and ‘A+’ grades to most of their students, while those in eight districts in the Terai region provided arbitrary marks.
Without further ado, a meeting of NEB on Thursday has decided to investigate all the 24 schools.
Thus, the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2021, which were scheduled to be published within August 9, have been delayed.
For the academic year 2020/21, the NEB had made a new provision that the schools must provide a specific reason if they allot more than 80 marks for any student.
However, most of the private schools and some renowned government schools were found to be given marks to their students by violating the rules.
