The CPN-UML leader opined that people are frustrated due to the stoppage of activities which were initiated by KP Oli administration. These were the activities which were founded for people’s necessity.
Pokhrel, who was the former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, pointed out that the scrapping of 1,400 road projects spearheaded by Oli’s administration impacted the national economy adversely.
“Although the CPN (UML) is out of the government, it is always with the people and is currently focused on the upcoming general convention,” he stated.

]]>Right from the selection to the appointment, the judiciary was found to be accepting bribes. Justice Hari Krishna Karki, who headed the panel, submitted the disturbing report to CJ Rana on Thursday.
Chandeshwar Shrestha, Nepal Bar Association President and a member of the panel, stated that the panel has recommended that the Nepal judiciary implement reforms if they are willing to better the Nepal legal system.
The extensively detailed 250-pages report opined that the current judicial appointment process is the most significant perpetrator for corruption.
“The Judicial Council is responsible for recommending names of justices and judges, but the Council picks the names as it pleases without basing it on any legally defined criteria. Hence, the justice appointment gets controversial most of the time,” a member of the panel quoted the report.
The report stated that brokers were perpetuating the corruption by handling and influencing internal matters such as transfers of justices.“They are also found to be working to establish regular communications between justices and parties fighting for or against any case”.
The panel also made a startling finding that judges and lawyers were acting as brokers and suggested the judicial administration to scrutinize them intensively. Also, the rumors of judges’ relatives influencing the judicial matters should be pursued, suggested the panel in their report.
The committee recommended that Chief Justice’s role in the Constitutional Council be studied as it has come under fire lately. The incumbent Chief Justice Rana is under the spotlight as there is a consensus that Rana is intentionally delaying hearing the petitions made against the Council. These petitions were made during the KP Oli’s Prime Ministerial tenure.
As Council members are politicians, the decisions would be taken with political motives, and that would tarnish the Chief Justice’s stature, the panel opined.

About three months ago, the Moist party had sacked these lawmakers from their positions in response to their shuffle to the CPN-UML party.
These four lawmakers had joined the CPN-UML party after the Supreme Court’s verdict to scrap the merger between the two parties.
The Apex Court on May 7 canceled the unification between CPN-UML led by KP Oli and CPN (Maoist Center) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Following the verdict, the two parties were reviewed to their original forms as before they joined hands in 2018.
The two parties had hammered out an electoral alliance to unify the parties after the parliamentary election in 2017.

]]>As Sher Deuba stepped in as the new PM, Oli said this verdict of the Supreme Court would negatively impact Nepal’s multi-parliamentary setup.
Although he stated he and his party implement the court order, he emphasized that the order will destroy the political party system and roil the multi-party democracy.
“The terms and language used in the verdict has alarmed all those who believe in a multi-party system.
“The order has violated the system of check and balance [of power between state organs].
“This is just a temporary joy. It’ll have a long-term impact,” he commented.
He also said that he was not ousted by Nepal nationals but because of the Supreme Court verdict.
“I have not been ousted because of the people’s mandate but because of the court’s mandamus.
The exiting PM lobbed off a few parting shots at the Supreme Court. He accused that the apex court deliberately passed the verdict in favor of the opposition parties.
Oli said, “It is the duty of players to play the game. The referee is there to maintain fair play, not to help any one team to win.”
He stressed that the apex court overstepped its jurisdiction by passing verdicts on political matters.

The remaining cabinet members, other than Oli, are Bishnu Paudel, Basanta Kumar Nembang, Lila Nath Shrestha, and Krishna Gopal Shrestha.
