Nepal has become home to many technological advancements. The latest addition to this list is drones for medical purpose.
Yes! Drones are being used to take patient’s samples to labs and administer antibiotics in Nepal’s remote areas.
Recognized as the Drone-Optimized Therapy system, these mini-carriers have performed test flights in Pithuan to collect patient’s samples and provide diagnosis and relief to them in such areas.
Patients receive their treatment through smart pills stored in boxes. These pills provide electronic reports on whether or not the patient has taken the antibiotic or not.
The drones also take the samples to hospitals in the Swargadwari municipality and public health center in Piuthan.
The pilot project will use drones to collect samples only from remote villages.
