They also asked the government to publicize that Nepal is a safe destination for tourism on a global scale.

    Nepal Tourism

At the meeting, Sarita Lama, the General Secretary of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal, emphasized the urgency of this decision as Nepal’s tourism activity peaks from September to November. If the decision is not taken in time, the tourism industry could be hit.

The pristine Himalayas pose a trekking challenge to tourists and Nepalis alike, but replete one with delightful surprises. Apart from trekking, one can do a great deal of many things in Nepal. Ranging from rafting to bungee jumping, Nepal has a lot to offer to adventure- and thrill-seekers.

However, these activities are somewhat offbeat as Nepal’s main attraction has always been trekking.

In this article, we shall explore the offbeat activities which are relatively lesser known to the world.

    1) Bungee Jumping

    Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping is one of the most popular activities among adventurists. While trekking is all about meticulously climbing the mountains, bungee is about jumping off from a high point with a tether attached. Thankfully, Nepal boasts this activity. The Last Resort in Sindhupalchok offers bungee jumping to the seekers.

Apart from this resort, the activity has been opened up in other locations as well. The High Grounds Adventure in Pokhara, and the suspension bridge in Kusma, offer the thrill of bungee jumping. This is one of the activities which is catching up with the others.

    2) Rafting

    Rafting

Nepal’s Himalayan rivers are a different experience in itself. The rivers of Nepal are gorgeous and pack turbidity enough to provide a memorable rafting experience. The excitement and the deafening sound of the rapids make the experience priceless. One of the best experiences can be found on the Trishuli river as rafting here is moderately complex.

The much more adventurous rafting will be found in Seti river. This river has enough rapids to make rafting a great experience. The Karnali and Bheri rivers are also thronged by rafters who are in West Nepal.

    3) Rock Climbing

    Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a sport that is tougher than it looks. Centering the weight on the feet firmly, one ought to move up using the hands without resting any bodyweight on them. The movement coordination and strain are not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure provides an exhilarating experience.

One can go rock climbing in Pasang Lhamu Climbing Centre or Astrek Climbing wall, where one can climb walls before going rock climbing. The wall climbing will help you understand how to go rock climbing later on. In addition, one can test their rock-climbing skills in Hattiban, Bimalnagar, and Monjo.

    4) Mountain Biking

    Mountain Biking

Nepal is a landlocked Himalayan country with ample terrain for mountain biking. The mountain regions are not only suitable for trekking but also for biking stunts.

The mountain trail in Annapurna Circuit, Upper Dolpo, and Khaptad provide enough airborne thrills to the seekers. Langtang National Park is also one of the places where bikers get their thrills.

    5) Ice Climbing

    Ice Climbing

Climbing upon the hardened ice sheets is an experience not dissimilar to rock climbing. The sport is favored by trekkers and adventurists who are mountaineering in Nepal. However, this is an activity that is not for all as ice presents a considerable challenge to the trekkers

One can scale the icy scapes in Humde in Manang and Thame in Khumbu, where ice is aplenty to climb. It is advised to go fully prepared with the gear and knowledge as to how to climb the icy slopes.

    6) Paragliding

    Paragliding

The mountains of Nepal will provide a picturesque gliding memory to all. There are various hill ranges of Nepal where one can glide. The hill ranges of Gorkha, Kot Danda, Godavari, Surkhet, Phulchoki, and Bandipur are visited by the aviation thrill-seekers. However, if you are a novice, it is better to glide with an instructor as the hills pose a deadly threat to the untrained.

    7) Skydiving

    Skydiving

Everest is the highest point in the world. However, skydiving above Everest is an emotion that is better felt than expressed. Nepal has allowed skydiving activities around Mount Everest, and skydivers can see the rooftop of the world. If one cannot skydive over Mt. Everest, there is always the Pokhara mountain range where one can dive into.

    Capping it off

Nepal not only has snowcaps to offer but a lot more. It is a haven to unwind and reconnect with the adventurous side of yours. With due caution and proper gear, indulge in the fun that not many know of and have the time of your life.

Entrepreneurs in Nepal’s tourism sector have approached the government to vaccinate frontline tourism staff and workers. They demanded 5,000 doses of vaccines from the government.

The demand was put forth by Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai on Tuesday. He approached the Finance Minister of Gandaki Province, Ramjee Baral.

He asked for the immediate vaccination arrangement as the tourism sector was one of the worst-hit sectors due to the global contagion.

Chairman Bhattarai stated that the demanded dosage would be provided to the workers of hotels and restaurants in the first phase. “Though it requires 20,000 doses for entire tourism entrepreneurs in Pokhara, we have merely demanded 5,000 vaccines to address the immediate need”, he said.

The tourism delegation, composed of Chairman Bhattarai, operators Agni Kandel, Basu Tripathi, and Tikaram Sapkota, also asked for a new schedule on loan repayment. Due to the pandemic impact, small and medium enterprises would struggle to repay the actual loan installments and interest amounts within two years.

The delegation asked the government to consider the tourism sector as a top priority in the fiscal year of 2021/22.

Minister Baral stated that the provincial government had conveyed it to the central government pertaining to the vaccines. Additionally, the provincial administration would revive the tourism sector in its permissible capacity.

A national survey has brought forth discouraging data indicating that the lockdown enforcement has axed jobs and incomes.

53 percent of Nepalis were devastated as they lost their jobs during this second-wave lockdown. Additionally, the lockdown measures claimed both the jobs and income of 40 percent of the citizens.

The survey, which was performed during the third quarter of May 2021, was conducted by Sharecast Initiative Nepal with the help of UNICEF. The survey was conducted across 3,000 families with kids across Nepal.

People the witnessed income loss in the form of remittances and sales dips. Other sources of additional income were also impacted.

The survey concluded that agriculture and tourism, Nepal’s most significant employment sectors, suffered the most. This triggered the massive Nepali downslide on the employment front.

The employment seekers of Bagmati and Karnali were the worst hit, as per the survey.

“This large-scale job and income loss threaten to further deteriorate the socio-economic well-being of children and their families,” the survey said in its findings.

The survey cautioned that due to loss of income, most families might trim down food consumption and other essential requirements to ax expenses. About 99 percent of families are not receiving any monetary support to spar with these unexpected hardships.

    UNICEF

UNICEF’s survey, Child and Family tracker, observed that more than 60% of households with kids suffered livelihood and economic losses in the initial two months of the lockdown.

Despite most of the aggrieved families recovering from the loss since 40 percent of the families are prone to slip into poverty, UNICEF emphasized.

Acting on the startling conclusions of this survey, UNICEF has transferred monetary resources to Nepal to safeguard over 10,000 children. The United Nations agency has commended Nepal on the expansion of the Child Grant Program and the social security allowance boost. The Nepali government has hiked the social security allowance 33 percent.

“It is important to increase the amount of the transfer to deal with the additional stress caused by the pandemic,” the UNICEF survey said.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has started preparations to revive domestic tourism that reeled under the severe implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

The NTB is all set to promote Nepali tourism in the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) to be organized by the International Tourism Promotion Board in India.

Supported by the Indian Tourism Ministry, the SATTE is one of the most prominent tourism exchange fairs in South Asia.

This is the first international event the NTB is allowing participants to participate physically after the pandemic.

Under the leadership of NTB, 25 companies, including Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), have geared up to attend the event to be held in Greater Noida from March 24-26, 2021.

According to NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, the companies will participate in the SATTE with the strategy to enter the markets in neighboring countries in a bid to promote domestic tourism.

”Tourist activities are gradually gaining momentum in India, and Nepal’s participation in the event will be significant even as India is yet to open its border for many countries. We will reach other tourism markets in India after analyzing the presence in SATTE,” said Regmi.

The NTB believes that participation in the international event will help promote Nepali tourism at a time when the Nepali Government has decided to resume flights to and from India.

“The NTB has realized the need for separate strategies for transit points, hill stations, and other touristic sites to attract Indian tourists to visit Nepal. Strategies have been formulated accordingly,” added Regmi.
