CAN Insures 51 Persons, Including 23 National Cricketers Against COVID-19!

Amid the growing threat of the coronavirus pandemic, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has included national cricket players in the insurance scheme of NPR 100,000 against COVID-19.

Lately, it has insured 51 persons, including 23 players, 16 ground staff of Kirtipur ground, six staffers of Mulpani ground, and six staffers of CAN against the infection.

However, the CAN had insured only the persons associated with the men’s national cricket team. It said that it would be insuring female players in the near future as there is no immediate competition.

“We plan to run the closed-door training for the national team after assessing the situation. For now, we are insuring the male players against COVID-19. Female players will be included in the second phase,” said CAN Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel.

Earlier, the CAN had scheduled to resume the training sessions of the male cricketers on August 17, 2020. However, it was postponed for an indefinite time due to the COVID-19 threat and prohibitory orders enforced in the Kathmandu Valley.

The National Sports Council (NSC) has postponed all sports competitions, training sessions, and sports-related activities until further notice.
