Nepal Reports 3rd COVID-19 Case, Despite Lockdown

Even the nation-wide lockdown in Nepal seems to be ineffective in staving off the coronavirus spread.

Within three days after reporting the second coronavirus case, the Nepali Government has confirmed the third COVID-19 positive case on March 25, 2020.

According to the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) Information Officer Rajesh Kumar Gupta, the patient is undergoing treatment at the Sukraraj Tropical Infectious Hospital in Kathmandu.

“The man had returned to home from Qatar on March 19. He also stayed at a hotel in Kathmandu. We are trying to find out whom he met after he landed in the town,” said Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal.

So far, the NPHL has tested 687 suspected cases, out of which 3 tested positive while the remaining have been tested negative for coronavirus.

Even though it shares most of its border with China and India, it is a bit of a mystery how Nepal has remained relatively unscathed from the deadly contagion.

Nepal has reported only 3 positive cases and has indeed managed to escape the worst so far.

It’s imperative for the Nepali Government to implement stringent preventive measures without any further ado, as the nation lacks basic health facilities to cope up with the coronavirus.

So far, the COVID-19 has spread to 198 countries infecting 471,576 people and claiming 21,297 lives.

Italy became the new hotspot of the coronavirus ‘pandemic’ and has reported 74,386 infection cases and 7,503 death cases.

So far, China has reported 81,285 infection cases and 3,287 death cases.

Other major affected countries-

  • USA – 68,472 cases, 1,032 deaths
  • Spain – 49,515 cases, 3,647 deaths
  • Germany – 37,323 cases, 206 deaths
  • Iran – 27,017 cases, 2,077 deaths
  • France – 25,233 cases, 1,331 deaths
