COVID-19: Nepal Enters Second Day of ‘Lockdown’

Nepal is under complete lockdown for the second day on March 26, 2020 with the people confined to their home in an attempt to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The government’s decision came in response to the surge in the positive cases in neighboring India and the emergence of the third coronavirus case in the nation.

A Nepali student with a travel history to France and Qatar has tested positive for the COVID-19 disease on March 23, 2020.

In order to monitor the lockdown, the Nepali Police Department has deployed traffic police personnel at every check post and junction.

In the same line, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) confiscated around 302 vehicles in Kathmandu on the charge of violating the lockdown order.

Around 33 vehicles among the total seized vehicles were from the Kalimati area alone.

“The vehicles confiscated on Wednesday will not be released anytime soon even though the MTPD had released vehicles confiscated on the first day of lockdown” said SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, MTPD Chief.

Likewise, the police are also taking stringent actions on those coming out of the houses for petty reasons. So far, Nepal has reported three coronavirus cases. However, the first case has already recovered and discharged.

As of today, the coronavirus has spread to 195 countries infecting 472,763 people and claiming 21,306 lives.
