COVID-19 Lockdown Nepal: 160 Foreigners Get Stranded

With the unprecedented nation-wide lockdown in Nepal, around 160 foreign tourists have been stuck across the high-altitude regions in the country.

The Nepali Government has imposed a lockdown on March 24, 2020 which includes schools, offices, factories, parks, temples, railways and even the airspace.

Owing to the movement restrictions, around 160 tourists, mostly from Europe, Australia and New Zealand, have got struct at various trekking spots.

 
  • 100 tourists at Lukla, the gateway to Everest, lies at an altitude of 2,800 meters
  • 60 tourists at Jomsom in north-central Nepal
  • 3-4 tourists at Langtang, a trekking route near Kathmandu

So far, the country has reported only three COVID-19 infection cases and one among them was already recovered and discharged.

Even though the number of coronavirus cases in the nation remains inexplicably low, the government has started implementing stringent prevention measures as it is at high risk of potential disaster if an outbreak takes place.

With its emergence in Wuhan, China in December 2019, the coronavirus has spread to at least 198 countries.

So far, the global coronavirus cases have reached 472,026 and while the death toll marked 21,297 and almost 114,711 have recovered.
