Nepal Tele. Develops Mechanism to Provide Early Calamity Warning

Nepal Telecom(NTC) has taken the onus of keeping the country informed about possible natural disasters well in advance.

In a move taken to reduce the loss of lives and property damaged caused by floods and landslides, the telecom operator in collaboration with Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has started sending text alerts to people in disaster-sensitive zones.

NTC has started sharing information of its users in disaster-prone areas with the department for early warning against disasters.

Information on possible natural disaster will be sent to targeted people in the hilly and mountainous areas, the Terai and other locations surrounding Babai, Bagmati, Kankai, Karnali, Koshi, Narayani and western Rapti rivers.
