]]>The government launched the NEHEP program with a budget of USD 60 million, with the support of the World Bank.
The University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the World Bank jointly launched the five-year program.
The main objectives of the NEHEP are:
“Investing in human capital from early childhood to higher education is key to helping young people in Nepal realize their development potential,” said Education Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya during the inaugural ceremony.
“This program will help strengthen the higher education sector in collaboration with industries and ensure students across Nepal including those from disadvantaged groups have access to quality higher education”, he added.
Likewise, World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, Faris Hadad-Zervos said, “By improving access of students, especially those from disadvantaged communities, to quality higher education and skills that are in demand in the labor market, this program will support Nepal’s COVID-19 recovery.”
“This is critical as the country forges efforts towards green, resilient, and inclusive development, which the World Bank is committed to support”, he mentioned.

]]>The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Chandigarh University, Punjab on Tuesday.
Mid-West University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nanda Bahadur Singh and Chandigarh University Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. R.S. Bawa inked the MoU in the presence of professors and officials of the universities.
“The objective of the signing the MoU between the two universities is to foster academic excellence, faculty and student exchange, research collaboration, quality education, positive environment, paradigm shift, transformative initiatives, cultural and contextual relevant models for development,” said the Mid-West University in a press release.
Moreover, the MoU also aims at creating opportunities for professional development to prepare graduates fit to face the 21st century global needs.
According to the Mid-west University, the MoU will be valid for five years from now and will be extended with mutual understanding.

]]>According to a report by UNESCO Institute of Statistics, the closure of educational institutes due to the pandemic has put an estimated 4.5 million girls at risk of missing school.
The closure of schools since March 2020 has proliferated the risk of thousands of girls never return to their schools.
“Such crises lead to long-lasting impacts on gender equality and education with irrevocable consequences on the most marginalized girls,” said the report.
“The risk of child labour, gender-based violence, early and forced marriage, and early and unintended adolescent pregnancy may increase, leading to many girls never returning to school.”
“Despite faring poorer in quality, girls’ access to education had increased significantly in the last two decades,” said Binay Kusiyait, Tribhuvan University professor.
“Though it is hard to say to what extent, the pandemic is surely taking away the achievement.”
The retention of children in school had been a challenge even before the pandemic. And the pandemic has further deteriorated the situation.
According to the government’s economic survey report for the FY 2020-21, over two-thirds of the students enrolled in Grade 1 drop out of the school by the time they reach Grade 12.
The report shows that the retention rate up to grade 12 in the current FY was 29.2 percent.

]]>The Nation Examination Board (NEB) has released a notice regarding the registration for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2079.
All the Grade 9 students are requested to go through the notice thoroughly before filling the registration form.
Schools must submit the registration form of their students at the Education Development and Coordination Unit within Mangsir 10,2078.
Students are advised to fill their registration form from the school where they are studying regularly. If a student submits application form from more than one school, the registration will be automatically cancelled, warned NEB.
Students who fail to submit the registration form are not eligible for appearing the SEE 2079 exams.

]]>The 10th edition of the Nepal European Union Film Festival (NEUFF) has kick started on a grand scale.
However, this year the film festival will be virtual on the back of pandemic. The festival will be streamed on the virtual streaming platform Festival Scope.
People can watch the festival for free by creating an account on the platform.
Organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal, the 2021 Nepal-EU Film Festival is being conducted from September 17 to 25, 2021.
The festival will premiere five Nepali films, 11 European films, and 23 films based on environmental conservation and climate change.
The Nepali films premiering on the festival are:
Besides the movies, the film festival also features many events and interactive sessions. Renowned film directors and artists from Nepal and Europe will take part in the festival.

]]>Due to the COVID-19 chaos, the examinations were postponed. They were initially scheduled to be held earlier.
With the current schedule, the examination will be held until September 24.
Controller of Examinations Krishna Sharma stated that most of the Grade 12 students had received their COVID-19 vaccinations, and the exams are being conducted with the assumption that the spread of coronavirus will be reigned in slowly.
It is widely assumed that the required arrangements for the exams have been completed. About 374,000 Grade 12 students are attending the exams being held now.

]]>Over 1,600 universities across 99 countries and territories have been ranked based on their performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Nepal’s top Tribhuvan University (TU) has stood at 801-1000 position. Though TU’s overall rank is same to that of the last year, the university has improved to 486 in the citation ranking.

In the year 2019, the TU earned the ranking at 801-1000 position. The next year, the ranking fell to 1000+. Thankfully, the University again made it to 801-1000 position in the year 2021.
The TU has been in the University Rankings for four consecutive years. It is the only university in Nepal to make it to the rankings.
Though Kathmandu University has submitted for the ranking this year, the institute has failed to meet the eligibility criteria to receive a rank.
The University of Oxford in the UK has topped the rankings for the sixth consecutive year. It is followed by California Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and Stanford University in the next places.
The Indian University of Science (IISc), Bengaluru stood top among the South Asian universities by security a spot in 301-350 range. It is followed by Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar in the 350-400 range.
The United States is the most-represented country overall with 183 institutions. The country bagged 57 spots in top 200.

]]>It has launched Pahilo SIM services for graduates who have completed their secondary education.
The organization stated that the launched SIM would allow the SEE graduates to get the Ncell prepaid SIM card at NPR 1.
The SEE graduates can opt for the bundled services of their choice after becoming Ncell subscribers.
As the company stated, “This offer is fully loaded with attractive features including a bonus on recharge, free My5 service, bonus data, and many more.”
The offer had come into effect yesterday, and to get the SIM card, SEE graduates have to get their genuine admit cards which would make them eligible for the Pahilo service across Nepal.
Under the current offer, the customers will get NPR 20 main balance and 150 MB data for a month if they recharge with NPR 100 or more within a week from SIM activation.
However, if they choose to recharge with NPR 50 or more, the subscribers will get bonuses on every recharge for the next six months. The bonus range from 500 MB data to 50 minutes of Talktime to Ncell to Ncell.
A passport-sized photo, a photocopy of the tenth-grade mark sheet must be taken along with a valid citizenship certificate of self, or parents must be presented to get the SIM card.
