Nepal Reports 1,081 New COVID-19 Cases, Tally Reaches 49,219

Daily ‘new highs’ in COVID-19 cases have become common, as coronavirus continues to spread rapidly across the world.

In the last 24 hours, around 290,000 new cases were reported globally, taking the total COVID-19 caseload to 28,025,174. The global death toll is at 908,000. Currently, there are 20,103,361 recoveries and 7,013,813 infection cases.

Recently, India touched the grim distinction of recording the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in the world. India surpassed Brazil with 4,465,863 cases and is now behind the USA, which has registered 6,549,475 cases.

COVID-19 in Nepal

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Nepal has record 1,081 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the nation’s COVID-19 tally to 49,219.

Meanwhile, 918 patients were discharged from various hospitals after a successful recovery. Currently, there are 33,882 recovery cases and 15,025 active cases.

Unfortunately, six patients have lost their lives while undergoing treatment for COVID-19. Now, Nepal’s death toll stands at 312. The coronavirus fatality rate in the country stands at 0.63%.

Govt. Eases Lockdown Restrictions in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu Valley has recorded the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 464 new cases on Wednesday. With this, Valley’s total cases reached 9,440.

Despite the rise in cases across the Valley, the District Administration Officers (DAO) have decided to ease lockdown restrictions in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur.

However, the prohibitory order will be imposed till the midnight of September 16.

The new lockdown restrictions in the Kathmandu Valley are as follows:

• No public gatherings in open spaces for any purpose, protests, seminars, sports events and congregations in religious places
• Party places, educational institutes, and Saloons will remain closed
• Taxis should carry only three passengers (and two more children if they are from the same family and below five years of age)
• Public vehicles should carry only half the capacity of their vehicles and only one passenger in a row
• Private and public vehicles should follow the odd-even rule
• Shops dealing in essential commodities including food items, vegetables and fruits can open from early morning till 11:00 am and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
• Vehicles used for ferry construction materials can operate between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, without following the odd-even rule
• Shops providing takeaway services and online delivery can operate between 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm
• Cooperative offices can operate between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm
• Shopping malls and garment, shoes and cosmetic stores should open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
• Shops dealing in kitchenware should open on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday
• Furniture and automobile shops should open on Monday and Wednesday
• Street vendors, pushcart traders, electric goods stores and departmental stores can operate from early morning till 11:00 am and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
• Motor workshops can operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
