The Nepali Government has decided to appoint former Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada as the nation’s new Ambassador to the United States of America.
A Cabinet Meeting held today has recommended Dr. Khatiwada for the post of Nepali Ambassador to the USA. He will succeed Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki as new Ambassador.
Since he resigned as the Minister of Finance and Communication last month, Dr. Khatiwada has been serving as the Special Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
However, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee is yet to approve Dr. Khatiwada for the post before being appointed as Ambassador by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
During the meeting, the Council of Ministers has also recommended the outgoing Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi as Nepal’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Regmi resigned from his post today even though his official retirement date is October 19, 2020.
After the post became vacant, the Nepali Government has decided to appoint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shankar Das Bairagi as the new Chief Secretary.
