In a move boosting Nepal women’s football team, the country’s football association ANFA announced cash prizes for each of the players, who participated in the Fifth SAFF Football Championship.

ANFA Spokesperson Kiran Rai shared the information at the ANFA 18th Annual General Meeting press conference in Biratnagar on March 23, 2019. The football association decided to reward the players with NPR 100,000 each.

Earlier, the Province 1 Government also announced a cash prize of NPR 100,000 for each player after Nepal emerged ‘runner up’ at the recent SAFF Championship.

Likewise, the Biratnagar Municipality also joined ANFA and Province 1 Government in rewarding the players with NPR 50,000 each. Overall, the players will receive a cash purse of NPR 250,000.

During the 18th General Assembly, ANFA President Karma Tshering Sherpa also presented the progress made by Nepali football since the previous general assembly.

Rai added that a budget of NPR 237.45 million has been proposed for the upcoming fiscal year 2019-20, in accordance with the annual ANFA program.

The ANFA Spokesperson also took the opportunity to thank everyone who successfully managed an international tournament for the first time out of Kathmandu Valley.

Province 1 Governor Gobinda Bahadur Tumbahang honored the women footballers at his residence on March 22, 2019.

Speaking about the championship, Tumbahang said that it is a matter of pride for Nepal to organize an international event. He also encouraged the players to remain positive despite their defeat, adding that winning and losing is a part of the game.

“Our team presented high class performance with discipline in every game. Province 1 is very excited after good performance by the Nepali team and by successful organization of the event,’’ said Tumbahang.

Nepal presented good competition at the 5th SAFF Championship. However, it failed to bag the champions trophy in the final match against India, where it lost 3-1.
