In a move amid the rising COVID-19 outbreak, the Supreme Court of Nepal ordered authorities to provide safety kits for free of cost to the needy.
The list of items includes hand sanitizers, safety masks, other essentials, and medicines.
The apex court took this decision in response to Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a group of lawyers seeking SC’s intervention.
The petitioners said it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure these supplies in the public fight against COVID-19.
The Supreme Court formed its decision stating the right to health as a fundamental right and such rights as the duty of the state under Section 3(4) (C) of Public Health Act, 2018.
The Court also urged the authorities to ensure necessities to patients under quarantine by maintaining social and physical distancing norms.
Underlining the importance of medical staff, the apex court ordered a free supply of uniforms and medical equipment to all the frontline workers.
