Nepal’s Medical Education Commission has announced that it will be providing 75 percent scholarship quota for MBBS and other medical bachelor students.
The scholarship will be open to medical students studying Ayurvedic medicine, BDS, MBBS, Nursing and Radiology among others and admitted in government medical colleges – Institute of Medicine, Patan Academy of Health Sciences and the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
“Scholarship will also be made available in Karnali Academy of Health Sciences and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences when MBBS programme starts there,” said Shree Krishna Giri, Vice Chair, Medical Education Commission.
“The commission has decided to increase the scholarship to provide access to medical studies for poor but talented students,” said Giri. The medical scholarships earlier were limited to 10 percent.
According to Giri, the scholarship will be granted to as many as 350 students this year. The eligibility of the students will be decided on the basis of the merit list in the medical entrance exams.
As per the National Medical Education Act, 75 percent scholarships seats should be allocated in state-funded medical colleges.
It also states that medical colleges managed with domestic resources should reserve 10 percent scholarship quota for students.
