Nepal COVID-19 Count Mounts to 3,762, Deaths Remain at 14

The number of new coronavirus cases in Nepal is crossing 200-mark every day since June 1.

The Nepali Government recorded the first cases on Feb 15, 2020. It took two and a half months for the count to reach 100-mark. However, the COVID-19 cases increased by over 3,600% in one month from 107 on May 7 to 3,762 on June 8.

Currently, Nepal has 3,260 active cases, 14 death cases, and 488 cases have recovered.

 

Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread exponentially across the world, with around 7,199,306 confirmed cases in 188 countries.

However, 75% of the cases were reported from 10 countries, mostly in the Americas and South Asia. Around 408,734 people have lost their lives to the contagion.

In the last 24 hours, Nepal has recorded 314 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the nation’s total count to 3,762.

Meanwhile, 21 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the total recoveries to 488.

30 Nepalis Travelled in Bus with COVID-19 Victim Tests Positive

Thirty people who came to Nepal from India in a bus with a 35-year-old youth, who died on the way due to COVID-19, tested positive for coronavirus infection.

The youth from Arghakhanchi had died on May 23 while returning from India. He was found to be infected by coronavirus when his swab sample was tested posthumously.

In response, the Nepali Government has quarantined all the 52 people traveled on the bus with the deceased. However, only 30 among them tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the Assistant Chief District Officer of Arghakhanchi, Bikram Thapa, among the infected, 28 are from Sandhikharka Municipality and one each from Panini and Sitganga.

With the continuous rise in coronavirus cases in the country, the Nepali Government has decided to test 10,000 individuals daily through the PCR method from June 29, 2020.

Speaking in the parliament on Monday, Minister Dhakal informed that the government had initiated the procurement of the testing machines for all the seven provinces to test 10,000 individuals daily.

Currently, the government could test around 4,000 people daily from labs setup in 21 places across the country. So far, 197,000 people were tested for COVID-19 through PCR methods and 156,991 people through RDT methods.
