Nepal is reeling under a nationwide lockdown for the last two months due to the socioeconomic crisis incited by the coronavirus pandemic.
The pandemic has obliged companies to downsize their operations and fire employees. Apart from having a financial plan to deal with a job loss, finding another job during the ongoing crisis became tough. It is even challenging for new job seekers to get an employment opportunity.
Acknowledging the harsh reality, some private IT companies have come forward to create employment opportunities for the people in need.
Girls In Tech Nepal in collaboration with Jobdynamics.com and Genese Cloud Academy has successfully organized a ‘Virtual Job Mela,’ the first of its kind virtual IT job fair in Nepal on June 1, 2020.
The job fair witnessed participation of 30+ IT companies and 500+ enthusiastic job seekers.
A few weeks before the job fair, the interested participants were asked to fill applications, and shortlisted applicants were notified through email.
During the fair, applicants were facilitated with real-time virtual access to browse different companies, check openings and chat with the company representatives.
Moreover, the employers and applicants were connected through video conferencing tools such as ZOOM.
Dinesh Silwal, CEO of Datalytics Pvt. Ltd., expressed happiness in participating in the virtual job fair.
“It was our first time participating in a job fair of this kind. Normally, we want to be in the room with somebody and look them in the eye when we want to offer them a job. But the virtual job fair is a new reality. It provided us a unique experience. We have hired a few team members through this job fair,” said Dinesh.
