VIP Culture Hurts Traffic Movement in Valley

July 6, 2017

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has initiated plans to address traffic issues in the Kathmandu Valley caused by VIP movement.

Admitting that the VIP movement has been creating traffic snarls, DIG Mingmar Lama, in-charge at MTPD, said that they are taking steps to end the practice of clearing traffic for VIP vehicle movement, unless needed.

In this regard, MTPD is conducting orientation classes for police personnel in proper traffic management, said the officer.

The official also informed that around 1,000 police personnel were assigned the task of overseeing the VIP personal security, including ministers, president, former president, former vice-president, and former prime ministers. “Since the security personnel are with VIPs all the time and escort their vehicles with flashing light and siren, they could help us manage the traffic,” Lama added.

The orientation class being held at MTPD office, every Friday, is attended by 50 personnel, and has already benefited over 100 police personnel.
