The national volleyball teams of Nepal and Bangladesh meet in the first of the two-match friendly series at Lalitpur today. At the pre-match conference in Kathmandu on Monday, the coaches and captains of both teams expressed satisfaction regarding their preparations and were optimistic about their chances of victory.
Bangladesh Head Coach Ali Pour Aroji said that they are delighted to play against Nepal which has recently made volleyball, a national sport. He added that it would be a good contest as Nepal has been in impressive form of late. Bangladesh Skipper Sayed Al Zabir said that though his team has a few fitness issues, they will give it their best shot.
Jagdish Bhatta, Nepal’s Head Coach, said that his team was high on confidence ever since they won the bronze medal at the AVC Central Zone Volleyball Tournament held in the Maldives earlier this year. He also said that the three-week training program with Danish coach Matt van Wezel helped them immensely.
Nepali skipper Im Rana Magar was of the opinion that the matches would provide a great exposure to his team. He said, “We won our maiden international medal this year and we want to continue such positive momentum registering victories against Bangladesh.”
Nepal has won two of their past three encounters with Bangladesh in the last seven years, though in the latest face-off between the two teams Bangladesh emerged victorious.
