Nepal has recorded 10,099 coronavirus positive cases and 24 death cases. Currently, 7,851 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, while 2,224 patients were recovered successfully.
The global coronavirus cases crossed 9.35 million on Tuesday, with the United States still sitting on top in terms of the number of infections and deaths. Among the 9,354,860 infected cases, 5,041,823 patients have recovered and 479,816 have died.
The United States has recorded the highest 2,424,168 COVID-19 infection cases and 123,473 deaths. It is followed by Brazil (1,151,479 infections, 52,771 deaths), Russia (599,705 infections, 8,359 deaths), and India (456,115 infections, 14,483 deaths).
Nepal has again seen a sharp spike of 538 new COVID-19 cases on June 23, with its total rising to 10,099.
It took 15 days for Nepal to cross the 5 thousand mark from 1,000 cases, and 11 days to reach a grim milestone of 10,000 cases.
However, the fatalities from coronavirus are very low in the country. So far, only 24 people have died from the coronavirus infection.
Lately, a 45-year old COVID-19 patient from Dailekh died on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Surkhet Provincial Hospital.
Meanwhile, 76 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery cases to 2,224.
Currently, 85,813 people are in various quarantine facilities and 7,851 are in isolation centers across the nation.
The Nepali Government has tested 4,995 suspects through the PCR method and 3,481 through the RDT method in the last 24 hours.
While the country is reeling under the severe socio-economic implications of coronavirus pandemic, the poor management of quarantine centers is further worsening the situation.
The delayed coronavirus testing reports and improper facilities have led to protests by people. And, some even committed suicide as the daunting situations at the quarantine centers is taking a toll on the mental health of people.
Lately, a 30-year-old youth from Pathibhera rural municipality-7 has committed suicide during his stay in a quarantine center in Bajhang.
According to the Municipality Chairman Akkal Dhami, the youth was found hanging in a separate room in the quarantine center.
The youth, who returned recently from India, was in quarantine from June 20 and has not met his family since then.
Meanwhile, people in quarantine camps in Dang district staged demonstrations over the delay of coronavirus test reports from Rapti Academy of Health Sciences.
They demonstrated shouting slogans, ‘Give us our report or Allow us to go back home,’ on Monday after Academy delayed issuing the report even two weeks after swabs were collected.
