While 2020 was an annus horribilis due to the coronavirus pandemic, 2021 seems to be a better year with many countries approving COVID-19 vaccines.
Lately, on Friday, the Nepali Government approved the emergency use of AstraZeneca’s ‘Covishield’ vaccine manufactured in India.
“The vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India has been given conditional permission for emergency use,” informed the Department of Drug Administration (DDA), Nepal’s drug regulatory body.
India has already approved the emergency use of Covishiled by SII and Covaxin by Bharath Biotech. PM Modi will virtually launch the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive on 16 January, at 10:30 AM.
So far, Nepal has reported 266,816 coronavirus infection cases, with 270 new cases in the last 24 hours. The death tally has reached 1,948, with five new deaths since Thursday.
Meanwhile, 390 patients have recovered from the infection in the past 24 hours, taking the total recovery cases to 260,567.
