In the past three days, the floods have claimed nine lives with four people missing in various parts of the country. Around 42 houses were destroyed, 4,000 houses were inundated, and around 756 people were relocated to safer places.

According to the weather forecast, Province 1, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and a few districts of Sudurpaschim will witness heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, other regions of the nation will see light to moderate rains.
“This is a continuation of the rain caused by the monsoon trough. The more the trough goes north to the foothills of the Himalayas, the more it activates monsoon rain, and this pattern will last till Tuesday,” said Ram Prasad Awasthi, information officer at the Department.
“In the coming two days, the rainfall is likely to be more intense in the Tarai region, mainly in the Mahabharata and the Chure ranges, and in the Gandaki Province,” added Awasthi.

]]>The post Nepal Air Sports: Hot Air Balloon Flight Tourism Kicks Off in Pokhara! appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>Nepal’s popular tourism destination Pokhara was the first to witness this new tourism activity and its launch went in a unique way.
It went like this! Hundreds were excited to see a giant colorful balloon placed near the Fewa Lake. As the public was watching, crew members ignited fire at bottom of the balloon using gas cylinders. Immediately, the balloon started flying upwards.
However, the inaugural flight of the balloon remained to a shorter period owing to high wind speed at the venue.
This is the first-ever commercial launch of hot air balloon flight service in Pokhara and was attended by tourism & sports entrepreneurs, politicians, journalists and many locals.
“The hot air balloon will definitely contribute to the tourism of Pokhara. I believe that it will enable tourists to spend more days in the city to indulge in such recreational and adventurous activities. It’s a positive start,” says Subba Gurung, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Pokhara.
Gurung expressed hope that the new tourism activity will contribute to the Gandaki provincial government’s aim to drive 2 million foreign and domestic tourist arrivals to the Province by 2022.
“Through the balloon flight, one can feel the majestic Himalayan ranges and the beauty of Pokhara closely. We want to support the tourism of the country through this recreational aviation activity,” says Balloon Nepal Secretary Prabin Maharjan.
Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd. started the balloon flight service at an investment of NPR 15 million upon approval from the country’s Civil Aviation of Authority, with initially two balloons bought from a Spanish firm.
Maharajan informed that the commercial operations of the new tourism activity will begin from Dhampus, a village 22-km away from Pokhara.
Nepal’s Hot Air Balloon Flight Tourism: Here is How?
A single flight in hot air balloon gives you a picturesque view of Nepal’s five mountains: Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Mardi and Himchuli.
Operated by a professional pilot, the hot air balloon is not that complex but needs certified equipment and a good weather for safe experience.
It works upon heating the air inside with the burner, which makes the balloon lighter than the cool air around making it float despite its huge size.
The balloon is currently being operated by a professional pilot from India, supported by a set of Nepali crew.
“Pokhara valley is beautiful and people can see the stunning views of mountains from the top, so I think it’s a perfect destination for ballooning,” says Pilot Nitesh Parheik, an experienced professional working in the industry since few years.
“The balloon flight is totally safe as we follow globally recognised standards of safety. Passengers’ safety is always the foremost priority for us,” Nitesh adds.
The first day of the commercial hot air balloon flight tourism saw nearly three fights with hundreds booking for them.
A single flight costs NPR 11,000 (nearly USD 100) for a Nepali, while it is USD 160 for a foreign tourist.
“It was my first time for such air adventure and it felt really amazing. I could see a good view of the city from the top,” said a 26-year-old photographer Yush Dangol, who experienced the balloon flight on the launch day.
Hope the new activity will give needed boost to the air sports tourism in Nepal, especially in Nepal’s major tourist attraction Pokhara. Besides hot air balloon, Pokhara already has other air sports activities such as ultralight flights, paragliding and sky diving, among others.

]]>On a daily basis, a total of 600-800 students visit the Gorkha museum. Many visit Gorkha for its historical value including the Gorkha Durbar site and to learn about Prithvi Narayan Shah’s unification campaign and the Shah dynasty.
The Gorkha Museum presents students with first-hand information of what they learn in schools’ history books. “It’s easier to recollect information which we read in school, when we see them in photographs at the museum,” said Junu Rai, Illam Student.
Museum Chief Nabinraj Adhikari said 10 percent of the total visitors are students. “The number of visitors reaches its peak from mid-September to mid-January,” said Adhikari.
Students visit the Gorakhkali and Gorakhnath temples, Gorkha Museum and Gorkha Palace, as part of their Gorkha visit.
Unfortunately, the tour is short, the time taken to visit the historic place is just two hours.
Even tourism operators complain that they have not been able to make use of the tourists potential as they stay for a shorter while. Moreover, there are no alternative destinations within the region for tourists.
Tourism Ministry Identifies 18 New Tourist Destinations
Nepal Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ministry recognized 18 different places in Gandaki Province as new tourist hubs for tourism development.
The Ministry selected the destinations based on Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), local & provincial governments and key tourism stakeholders’ recommendations.
According to the Ministry, Chumbhyali of Chumnurbi Rural Municipality, Gorkha, Kalika Shahid Kaulepani of Lamjung, Mauja Homestay of Kaski, Narfu Trail of Manang, Shanti Park and Siddagufa Bhimad of Tanahun, among others are the areas chosen.

]]>The two-day Chief Ministers’ Meeting organized by the Gandaki Province Government was focused on listing out common agendas for the Inter-state Council meeting to be held in Kathmandu on September 09, 2018.
The meeting saw discussions on the current status of governance across local bodies, issues and ways to resolve them.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Gandaki Province Chief Minister (CM) Prithvi Subba Gurung said that the meeting is in line with the constitutional provision for federal structure that marks the significance of CM’s role in development after Prime Minister.
In the meeting, majority of the CMs said the federal government failed in timely devolution of powers to provincial governments, leading to discrepancies in key areas like defining laws, human resources and required budgets.
Because of this, provincial governments failed to deliver the required support to local bodies, they added.
“This has led to a situation, wherein we’ve not been able to send the message to the people that provincial government is at work despite being six months in power,” said CMs.
They claimed that provinces will not able to deliver the expected unless local administration, civil servants and police are under their jurisdiction.
Raising serious concerns over implementation of budget, policy and programs even six months after the formation of provincial bodies, CMs urged the Center to handover all the physical infrastructure and other properties to the provinces.
They urged for the formation of the ‘National Natural Resources and Financial Commission’ at the earliest possible.
Let’s take a glance at what Chief Ministers of various Provincial Governments said in the Summit:
It’s obvious that questions would be raised against the federal government as the constitution has allocated all the rights to it including that of transition period, civil servants, managing resources, formation of police organization and right to draft laws regarding the list of common rights. Since the provincial governments would be responsible for the failure of federal system, we have taken the initiative to organize the gathering and play constructive role. – Prithvi Subba Gurung, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province
Provinces have brought the budget, but there is no mechanism to implement. Old structures have been removed. The presence of provincial government cannot be felt at all the districts. – Dormani Poudel, Chief Minister of Province 3
Though province’s law & order comes under state government’s jurisdiction, we’ve not been able to form the provincial police – Lal Babu Raut, Chief Minister of Province 2
“It’s a serious issue. What shall we do if the central government refused to accept when we begin the process after seeking foreign investment? – Shankar Pokhrel, Chief Minister of Province 5

]]>Earlier, Dolakha was envisioned to host Nepal’s Film City, but the Prime Minister ruled out the possibility when he said that the district was not appropriate for the project owing to its unpredictable weather.
The prospect of setting up a Film City in Nepal has been in talks for more than a decade now, considering the primary agenda of luring Bollywood production houses and others to shoot films against the picturesque landscapes of Nepal.
Oli’s Declaration of Film City
In his address to the Gandaki Provincial Parliament, Prime Minister KP Oli announced the government’s plans of coming up with a Film city at the aforementioned destination.
Alongside this announcement, he also revealed that a team of Indian professionals led by Indian Director and Zee Cinema Chairperson Subhash Ghai will be coming to Nepal to gauge the possibility of constructing the said project in Pokhara.
The team will also be visiting locations around Tanahun and Gorkha.
“I have asked them to look for locations around here, I think the most viable space for a film city lies in the Gandaki province,” says Oli.
Adding further, he says, “If we can establish a film city, then within two years we could see visible change. From Mumbai, one can merely see seas, but from here, one can also see mountains and lakes. It’s not for nothing that Amitabh Bachchan came here to shoot his films.”
We hope that the new facility at Pokhara will further enhance the Lake City’s grandeur!

]]>This was announced amid a special program organized in Pokhara on July 11, 2018.
Kaski’s recognition as a fully-vaccinated region is coming as a result of successful immunization campaign held across different wards of Pokhara metropolis.
According to Ek Narayan Lamsal, District Public Health Officer of Kaski, more than 8000 children below 15 years of age in the district are fully vaccinated.
“Children up to the age of 15 months have been administered 11 types of vaccines,” says Lamsal.
Fully Immunized
It is noteworthy that Pokhara is also widely known as a ‘fully immunized metropolis’ and other local levels of the district have already been declared ‘fully immunized’.
After Kaski, now Syangja remains to be the only district in the Gandaki Province waiting for the
‘fully vaccinated’ status.
Speaking on the occasion, Province 4 Minister for Social Development Nardevi Pun Magar said Syangja will also be offered a similar status very soon, thus finally declaring the entire province as ‘fully vaccinated’.
In his address, Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung said the government is open for implementation of policies that ensure public health and is also willing to work with central and local governments.
On the occasion, Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Man Bahadur GC lauded the support of political parties and health volunteers in making the metropolis fully-immunized.
Chapakot Village Development Committee (VDC) was the first to receive the ‘fully immunized’ status three years ago, after which Pokhara sub-metropolitan was declared ‘fully vaccinated’.
