Former King Gyanendra Shah, who was diagnosed with complications in his heart during a regular health checkup, was admitted to the Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Doctors decided to go ahead with angioplasty after a medical report revealed a blockage in a heart valve during the angiography test.
A team of doctors led by Dr. Yadav Dev Bhatta successfully performed the angioplasty procedure on Shah, who had celebrated his 70th birthday only recently.
According to family sources, the former king would spend a few days recuperating at the hospital.
Shah was the last king of Nepal from 2001 to 2008 before monarchy was abolished and the country was declared a republic.
