]]>The floods from October 18-20 have caused a financial loss of around NPR 2.5 billion.
According to the Industry Association in Morang, a total of 41 industries in the Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor suffered a loss totaling to NPR 2.471 billion.
As per the study report released by the Association, NPR 981.718 million loss was incurred in machine tools, NPR 712.57 million in raw materials, and NPR 764.05 million in finished goods.
Likewise, sanitation and waste management incurred a loss of NPR 17.1 million. The daily administrative expenditure of 41 industries is around NPR 50 million.
Among the 41 impacted industries, a total of 27 industries came into operation in a week. Meanwhile, around seven industries are about to come into operation in the next two weeks.
“It will take another four weeks for three industries to come into operation and more than four weeks for four industries to come into operation,” mentioned Chudamani Bhattarai, Director General of Industries Association Morang.

]]>The rain-induced disasters have caused severe damage to property and infrastructure, destruction of crops and livestock, and loss of human life.
According to the police report, as many as 101 have lost their lives in the recent incidents of floods, landslides, and inundation. Moreover, 41 people went missing. Likewise, a total of 139 animals have died.
In terms of property and infrastructure damage, a total of 2,232 houses were inundated, and 49 houses, 8 cowsheds, 6 bridges and 3 government offices have been damaged.
Moreover, a total of 1,177 households have been displaced due to the disaster so far.
Hot on heels of the disaster, the Nepali Government has convened an emergency meeting to assess the damage caused by the natural calamities and draft relief methods.
During the meeting, the government had decided to provide NPR 2,00,000 ex-gratia to the families of people deceased due to floods and landslides.
According to the IT Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, the cabinet meeting also decided to provide additional NPR 1,00,000 per person as relief if more than one member of the same family had lost life.
Similarly, the government decided to offer NPR 15,000 to the family of five and NPR 20,000 to the family with more than five members displaced by the floods.
Moreover, the Nepali Government decided to bear the treatment expenses of those injured in the recent floods.
The families whose houses have been damaged due to floods will be provided NPR 50,000 per house as support to rebuild their home.

]]>The home ministry has confirmed the death count and stated that these mortalities have occurred on Wednesday morning since Sunday in different districts.
As per the ministry’s spokesman, Phanindra Pokharel, the floods in the districts of Dhankuta and Humla have resulted in six deaths, and three more deaths occurred in the Panchthar district. Two people died in the Ilam district.
The spokesman stated that the floods damaged the far-western relatively more. The communication lines in these regions are down. Province 1 has also suffered a communications outage.
The incessant rains have inundated the substations at Duhabi in Sunsari. Due to this submersion of power stations, the communications services are primarily down.
This situation has resulted in a power outage in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, among other districts from Tuesday.
The electricity authorities have pinned the blame on floods as the substations have become inundated from the downpour. This is primarily due to the low-pressure system in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states of India. Additionally, the westerly winds have caused the downpour since Sunday.

]]>Air travel operations are impaired as the rains have inundated the airport, said the airport authorities.
“All the area of Biratnagar Airport has been inundated by floods. We are struggling to save our lives, let flight services alone,” stated Utsav Kharel, Biratnagar Airport chief.
The inundated water has flooded the runway of the airport since this morning. The flooded water has risen to a height of five feet.
Buddha Air has decided not to operate from Biratnagar today.

]]>The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) issued a weather forecast that Nepal’s weather would remain partly to generally cloudy.
They also stated there are potential chances of light to moderate thundershowers in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
On Thursday, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy. There are also chances of thundershowers on Thursday.
The weather department also forecast cloudy weather to be accompanied by rains in Pradesh 1, Bagmati, Gandaki provinces on Friday.
The MFD forewarned the possibilities of landslides and floods in these rain-prone areas.

]]>The damage is so much that all the districts in Province 1, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and a few regions in Sudurpaschim have been affected by floods since the beginning of this monsoon.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), a total of 94 people have lost their lives and 44 went missing so far in this monsoon season.
Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall damaged 800 houses, 25 hydropower projects, 29 motorable bridges, and 29 suspension bridges across the country.
As per the Authority, around 90,000 people have been affected as floodwater inundated around 4,500 houses. Almost 6,000 people have been shifted to safer places so far.
In the past three days, the floods have claimed nine lives with four people missing in various parts of the country. Around 42 houses were destroyed, 4,000 houses were inundated, and around 756 people were relocated to safer places.
Rainfall Continues…
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted that rainfall will continue across the country until Tuesday.
According to the weather forecast, Province 1, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and a few districts of Sudurpaschim will witness heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, other regions of the nation will see light to moderate rains.
“This is a continuation of the rain caused by the monsoon trough. The more the trough goes north to the foothills of the Himalayas, the more it activates monsoon rain, and this pattern will last till Tuesday,” said Ram Prasad Awasthi, information officer at the Department.
“In the coming two days, the rainfall is likely to be more intense in the Tarai region, mainly in the Mahabharata and the Chure ranges, and in the Gandaki Province,” added Awasthi.

]]>The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) reported that due to the natural calamities in these four days, 15 people have died from June 14 to June 18.
The Centre Chief Dil Bahadur Tamang said 25 people were reported to have gone missing, and 11 were injured in these floods. 6 such people are from Sindhupalchowk, 2 are from Jumla and Doti. Another person from Syangja sustained the injuries.
According to the NEOC, three people have lost their lives in Sindhupalchowk floods and one demise each in the areas of Saptari, Kavrepalanchowk, Kaski, Arghakhanchi, Gorkha, and Bajura. The calamity claimed three lives in the Doti area and one life each in Palpa, Jumla, and Kalikot areas.
Appallingly, 25 people are nowhere to be found after the landslides and floods occurred. 15 people from Sindhupalchowk, 7 are from Bajura, and one person each in Rupandehi, Pyuthan, and other areas are the ones who went missing.

22 districts of Nepal have been affected by these floods while 32 districts were slightly affected by the floods, stated Bedinidhi Khanal, the spokesman for National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
So far, 129 houses have been destroyed, and 114 were partially damaged due to these monsoon-induced floods.
Thankfully, the government rescued eighty people from the Sindhupalchowk area.
However, roads in 31 places are choked due to these natural complications, as per the Department of Roads. Half of them have been restored to one-way operations.
“The department is using all available resources to operate the landslide-affected roads as soon as possible. The rains and landslides have not stopped because of which the work is not going as fast as expected,” said Deputy Director General of the DoR Bhuwan Adhikari.

]]>The flood has impacted the western sector of Sindhupalchowk, which has caused extensive loss of life and damage to the property.
Secretary of Helmabu Rural Municipality Arjun Bhandari confirmed that more than 50 people went missing Wednesday morning.
“Of them, 39 were workers at the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.”
Law enforcement estimated that the floods and landslides began on Tuesday evening and have gone on damage areas from Melamchi Bazaar to the coastal area through Ambathan area in Helmabu Municipality.
“Incessant rainfall has raised the level of the river,” DSP Prakash Sapkota said. “We are still receiving information on (the) damage of properties and lives.”
Melamchi Bazaar, Kuel, and Chaunate Bazaar bore most of the brunt of the flood. The bridge connecting Melamchi Ghyang Village, which was recently constructed, was also washed away by this calamity.
DSP Sapkota added that the Area Police Office, Helambu, Police Post, and Talamarang were submerged. Even law enforcement couldn’t reach the police premises due to the severity of the flood.
As per the Chanuate Bazaar localities, Helmabu is completely flooded. The rising water levels of Melamchi have arisen the potentiality that there is a risk of humanitarian damage in the area.

]]>Lately, at least 20 houses were swept away due to the landslides and floods caused by torrential rainfall in the Dhorpatan Municipality of Baglung. Bobagn, Sukurdung, and Sherabang villages were worst hit by the floods in the municipality.
The Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have started rescue and relief operations at the incident site.
According to the Police Inspector Prakash Singh Bhandari, over 30 people went missing in the floods.
Some of the identified missing persons are:
- Kaushala Pun, 35 and her six-year-old son, Hikmat, 6
- Jeet Bahadur Gharti, 35
- Raju Gharty, 40
- Kumari BK, 30
- Putali BK, 19
- Karmati Ghartimagar, 32
- Rina Ghartimagar, 35
- Dilmaya Ghartimagar, 35 and her six-year-old son
- Doti Pun, 55
- Tulmati Pun, 52
- Nabin Bhandari
So far, the rescue teams have retrieved eight dead bodies with the help of local people.
“The loss of properties and the exact number of people missing in the floods are yet to be ascertained,” exclaimed Bhandari.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, along with Lawmaker Upendra Paudel, has left for Baglung today to inspect the flood-hit Dhorpatan rural municipality.

]]>In a move taken to reduce the loss of lives and property damaged caused by floods and landslides, the telecom operator in collaboration with Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has started sending text alerts to people in disaster-sensitive zones.
NTC has started sharing information of its users in disaster-prone areas with the department for early warning against disasters.
Information on possible natural disaster will be sent to targeted people in the hilly and mountainous areas, the Terai and other locations surrounding Babai, Bagmati, Kankai, Karnali, Koshi, Narayani and western Rapti rivers.
