Nepali Youth Grabs ‘Hero Award 2017’ in US

The Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI), United States presented a rare honor to a Nepali youth at the 14th International Human Rights Summit held at UN Headquarters in New York.

YHRI honored Guna Raj Pyakurel with the Hero Award 2017 for his humanitarian rescue efforts during natural disasters.

 

Pyakurel, who is a national representative of Youth for Human Rights Nepal, actively participated in relief and rescue measures related to the massive earthquake on April 25, 2015 in Nepal. He was among the team of 85 global volunteers who arrived in Nepal to take part in rescue and relief operations related to the disaster.

Mary Shuttleworth, President of the New York-based YHRI, handed over the award to Pyakurel, who later expressed happiness for receiving the award and said that it would motivate him to continue his works in the field.

Representatives from 40 countries, participated in the summit, which concluded on Saturday.
