Sushila Karki – Nepal’s First Woman Chief Justice Retires

Sushila Karki, who became the first woman Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal last year retired on June 08, 2017 after attaining 65 years age. She was the 25th Chief Justice of Nepal Supreme Court.

Sushila began her journey as an ad-hoc Justice and went on to become the first woman chief justice of the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal. The advocate turned justice has continued to stay in the limelight for her revolutionary decisions, some of which turned highly controversial including impeachment case on chief of constitutional anti-graft body CIAA, government decision to increase local units, and IGP appointment case among others.

 

With Sushila’s retirement, senior Justice Gopal Parajuli will become the acting Chief Justice.
