]]>The upcoming edition of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship will be held in Maldives, not in the Himalayan country.
Earlier, both Maldives and Nepal have submitted the proposals for hosting the Championship.
However, the SAFF Executive Committee today reviewed the proposals and decided to hold the Championship in Maldives.
“SAFF decided to hold the Championship in the Maldives as the COVID-19 situation there is better than ours. Also, it has been long since the Maldives last hosted the Championship,” informed ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar.
Maldives had hosted the Championship only once in 2008. Whereas the Himalayan nation had hosted the event twice, first in 1997 and next in 2013.
Five South Asian countries, including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka, have confirmed their participation in the Championship. Bhutan is yet to confirm its participation.
The 2021 SAFF Championship is scheduled to be held from October 1-13, 2021.

]]>The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has received a formal offer from the Federation to host the Championship in Nepal.
According to the ANFA, the SAFF General Secretary Anwarul Huq officially wrote a proposal letter to the ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar to host the Championship in Nepal.
The ANFA will now draft a detailed proposal of the Championship and send it to SAFF for approval.
The SAFF President and Executive Committee will review the proposal from ANFA before conforming the host.
The SAFF has sent the offer to Nepal after Bangladesh Football Federation exited as host due to the threat of coronavirus pandemic in the country. A virtual meeting of the member countries held on July 23 decided this effect.
So far, Nepal has hosted the biennial football Championship two times, first in 1997 and second in 2013. However, the Himalayan nation has never reached the Championship finals. In 2013, Nepal lost to Afghanistan in the semi-finals.
India stands atop in the Championship. The neighboring country has lifted the Championship title seven times.

As fate led the course of the game, Bangladeshi midfielder Masura Parvin’s striker took her team to lead the game in the 49th minute, while Nepal kept trying to recover from the loss.
Nepal’s Rekha Paudel had the chance to level scores at the 51st minute but her attempt was not fruitful. Then as the match progressed the 72nd minute presented a golden opportunity for Nepal, to decide the ambitious team’s fate.
Paudel managed to lead the ball to the winning zone but was discouraged when it touched the frame of the goal net and bounced off taking away whatever chances Nepal had.
Ultimately, Parvin’s 49th minute goal remained Bangladesh’s unopposed winning-factor and Nepal faded out.
