The operators held a meeting in Kathmandu on Monday and asked that the government remove the COVID-19 restrictions hampering tourism activities for completely vaccinated tourists and furnish the visas to the tourists on arrival. They also asked the government to publicize that Nepal is a safe destination for tourism on a global scale.
At the meeting, Sarita Lama, the General Secretary of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal, emphasized the urgency of this decision as Nepal’s tourism activity peaks from September to November. If the decision is not taken in time, the tourism industry could be hit.
Raj Gyawali, an entrepreneur, said that the government should act immediately and issue an advisory that the country is safe for tourists.
The chief of the immigration department, Jhanka Nath Dhakal, was optimistic about granting the visa on arrival for tourists and about issuing an advisory. However, he stated that the cabinet would have to ratify the demands put forth.

]]>The pristine Himalayas pose a trekking challenge to tourists and Nepalis alike, but replete one with delightful surprises. Apart from trekking, one can do a great deal of many things in Nepal. Ranging from rafting to bungee jumping, Nepal has a lot to offer to adventure- and thrill-seekers.
However, these activities are somewhat offbeat as Nepal’s main attraction has always been trekking.
In this article, we shall explore the offbeat activities which are relatively lesser known to the world.
1) Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping is one of the most popular activities among adventurists. While trekking is all about meticulously climbing the mountains, bungee is about jumping off from a high point with a tether attached. Thankfully, Nepal boasts this activity. The Last Resort in Sindhupalchok offers bungee jumping to the seekers.
Apart from this resort, the activity has been opened up in other locations as well. The High Grounds Adventure in Pokhara, and the suspension bridge in Kusma, offer the thrill of bungee jumping. This is one of the activities which is catching up with the others.
2) Rafting
Nepal’s Himalayan rivers are a different experience in itself. The rivers of Nepal are gorgeous and pack turbidity enough to provide a memorable rafting experience. The excitement and the deafening sound of the rapids make the experience priceless. One of the best experiences can be found on the Trishuli river as rafting here is moderately complex.
The much more adventurous rafting will be found in Seti river. This river has enough rapids to make rafting a great experience. The Karnali and Bheri rivers are also thronged by rafters who are in West Nepal.
3) Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a sport that is tougher than it looks. Centering the weight on the feet firmly, one ought to move up using the hands without resting any bodyweight on them. The movement coordination and strain are not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure provides an exhilarating experience.
One can go rock climbing in Pasang Lhamu Climbing Centre or Astrek Climbing wall, where one can climb walls before going rock climbing. The wall climbing will help you understand how to go rock climbing later on. In addition, one can test their rock-climbing skills in Hattiban, Bimalnagar, and Monjo.
4) Mountain Biking
Nepal is a landlocked Himalayan country with ample terrain for mountain biking. The mountain regions are not only suitable for trekking but also for biking stunts.

The mountain trail in Annapurna Circuit, Upper Dolpo, and Khaptad provide enough airborne thrills to the seekers. Langtang National Park is also one of the places where bikers get their thrills.
5) Ice Climbing
Climbing upon the hardened ice sheets is an experience not dissimilar to rock climbing. The sport is favored by trekkers and adventurists who are mountaineering in Nepal. However, this is an activity that is not for all as ice presents a considerable challenge to the trekkers
One can scale the icy scapes in Humde in Manang and Thame in Khumbu, where ice is aplenty to climb. It is advised to go fully prepared with the gear and knowledge as to how to climb the icy slopes.
6) Paragliding
The mountains of Nepal will provide a picturesque gliding memory to all. There are various hill ranges of Nepal where one can glide. The hill ranges of Gorkha, Kot Danda, Godavari, Surkhet, Phulchoki, and Bandipur are visited by the aviation thrill-seekers. However, if you are a novice, it is better to glide with an instructor as the hills pose a deadly threat to the untrained.
7) Skydiving
Everest is the highest point in the world. However, skydiving above Everest is an emotion that is better felt than expressed. Nepal has allowed skydiving activities around Mount Everest, and skydivers can see the rooftop of the world. If one cannot skydive over Mt. Everest, there is always the Pokhara mountain range where one can dive into.
Capping it off
Nepal not only has snowcaps to offer but a lot more. It is a haven to unwind and reconnect with the adventurous side of yours. With due caution and proper gear, indulge in the fun that not many know of and have the time of your life.

]]>One such incident recently happened on the country’s Mount Gurja!
A heavy snowstorm followed by a massive landslide hit the base camp of Mt. Gurja claiming lives of nine climbers including five South Koreans and four Nepali guides.
Surprisingly, the veteran trekker Kim Chang-ho known for his record of climbing 14 of the world’s highest mountains was also among them!
The accident was reported to have happened on October 11-12, 2018, informed Suraj Paudyal, an official associated with a helicopter company that was involved in rescue operation to bring back the dead.
“A massive block of ice, probably 100 metres (330 ft) tall, likely fell from the mountain along a gorge, sending strong winds that hit the camp, threw the climbers off a cliff edge and into a ravine. Some bodies were by the side of a cliff, while others lay in the ravine,” reads Paudyal’s statement.
Though the nearby villagers spotted the dead on October 13, 2018, bad weather conditions did not allow rescuers.
Finally, the rescuers brought eight of the dead to Kathmandu on October 15, 2018, leaving one at the disaster site.
The trekking team was led by Chang-Ho, who is known for his record as the fastest climber to summit world’s 14 highest mountains above 8000 meters without supplemental oxygen.
Meanwhile, another team of French, Canadian and Swiss climbers led by Nepali mountaineer Rajan Bhote had already left for the base camp to scale Gurja West (6,465 mt.).

]]>Then Mustang of Nepal could be your right destination! Sleek cliffs, ochre-red lands, deep caves, monasteries and ages-old tradition describe Nepal’s beautiful Mustang region lying on the edge of the Tibetan plateau.
Mustang, popularly called Upper Mustang, is a desert region of deep valleys, thousands of manmade caves, amazing lands in combinations of ochre, red and brown colours and the ages-old culture.
Once the independent Kingdom of Lo, Mustang has been part of Nepal since the 18th century and started witnessing travelers or tourists only since 1991.
Mustang underwent the kingship rule until 2008 when the Government of Nepal abolished the monarchy’s official status with Jigme Singhe Palbar Bista as the last king of the region.
Prince Jigme Singhe Palbar Bista played a key role in preserving culture and art in the region while also promoting tourism potential of the region.
Let’s take a look at some of the exciting tourist destinations of Mustang:
Mustang is home to thousands of manmade caves and monasteries. Do you know? The region hosts more than 10,000 manmade caves that are older than 1000 years.
As one of the popular centres for Buddhist practises, Mustang and its valleys are well-known for their ambience and were one of the key centers for Tibetan Buddhist monks for advanced tantric and Tummo (a form of Tibetan breathing to generate heat at high altitudes), among other yogic practises.
Though most of those caves have turned empty with no indications of the past, some of the caves still showcase the imprints of Tibetan art, Buddhist teachings, carvings, statues of Indian yogis and sacred scriptures, among others.
Not just for serious explorers, Mustang is a beautiful destination in the Nepal-Tibet border set in the between one of the world’s highest mountain Annapurna range and the Tibetan Plateau.
As a region center for core Tibetan culture, Mustang is also a place for those wishing to take a ride across deep gorges and exciting valleys. An amazing ride from south to north of Mustang along the caravan road, the route shaped by the mountains through Kali Gandaki River, takes you through a never-forgettable experience on a journey towards the awe-striking caves and mountains of the north.
Another interesting trail is from Yara to Muktinath at the base of the Annapurna. This route takes you through beautiful sceneries and villages, breathtaking curvy roads and 4,000-meter mountain passes.
It would be more exciting to join the annual multi-stage 200-km trail running challenge held across these routes that offer an everlasting experience!
