Swift’s new song went viral on the midnight of April 26, 2019 and has only been rising to fame since then. While her 2017 album Reputation symbolized ‘triumph via revenge’, her new song tells her fans that she’s found freedom in herself.

Like all of Taylor’s song, the lyrics of ‘ME!’ are relatable and speaks for every individual. Moreover, it speaks of her personal journey so far.

The Bollywood flick is a brainchild of Indian filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who has also produced masterpieces such as Talvar and Raazi.

Chhapaak is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who now runs a TV show and is a campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks.

While embarking on the special project, Deepika shared a picture of her first look as Malti (acid attack survivor) on her Instagram handle with the following words:

“A character that will stay with me forever… Malti. Shoot begins today! Chhapaak!”

Similarly, Gulzar also took to Instagram to share a few words about her movie character Malati describing her as, “She is courage. She is hope. She is Deepika Padukone as Malti in Chhapaak. Shoot begins today.”

The shoot for the film began on March 25, 2019 for which Deepika flew down to the Indian Capital Delhi on the eve of Holi.

Padukone and Gulzar also shared pictures from the script reading session, where the former’s co-star Vikrant Massey was also seen doing his homework.

Gulzar captioned the picture with the words, “A team that reads together…” #Chhapaak

The movie will hit theaters early next year on January 10th 2020!

The film marks actor-producer Deepika Padukone’s return to the silver screen post marriage with beau Ranveer Singh and first production project alongside Fox Star Studios.

Padukone’s remarkable career is witness to her sheer talent and hard work over the years. We hope her new project takes her higher in her grandeur as the most-celebrated film actress of Bollywood.

Yes, that’s right. The next Nepali movie from the Romance genre is an adaption of Subin Bhattarai’s debut novel Summer Love.

Although previous adaptions of popular Nepali novel-turned-movies failed to impress the Nepali audience, Summer Love looks like ‘the one’ that will break this ‘jinx’.

Director Muskan Bhandari plans to do with the film what the novel did in publishing.

“I read Summer Love when it came out and was immensely impressed. Because the novel itself is ‘filmy’, I had wanted to make a film out of it. So I was overjoyed when the chance finally came around,” said Bhandari.

Unlike a few novel-turned-movies, the film remains true to the book and most of the plot remains the same. However, there’s a twist at the end! Well, you’ll have to wait to watch.

Bhandari says, because the film stays true to most of the novel and retains its artistic merit, it will be a breakthrough in the category of novel-turned-movies.

Summer Love is Director Bhandari’s second film, after his debut Nai Nabhannu La 3. Five ‘teaser posters’ are featured with the date of release and the names of cast including Aavash Priya a debutant actor, Rewati Chetri, Suraj Singh Thakuri and Namrata Sapkota. Samipya Raj Timalsina wrote the screenplay.

The movie Summer Love will tentatively release on February 8, 2019 through Nightingale Entertainment.

Summer Love Novel Plot

The book talks about a regular love story where a boy meets a girl, they fall in love and then things take a sad turn.

But what sets this novel apart is it’s simple narrative and plain prose.

It was well-received by readers and became a huge hit in September 2012, when it first released.

The video is a brainchild of popular Australia-based production company The NEXT’s Co-founder Pradeep Lama.

It features singer & composer Ojha, actors Deepson Pariyar, Nirmal Neupane Pokhrel & Sameer Tamang and a dance segment by The NEXT’s artists Suchana Paudel, Sweta Paudel, Prabha Dawadi, Amit Bajracharya, Yogesh Karki & Pradeep Lama himself.

“This is our first project that we did in Nepal as well… It took some time but we are glad that the video is finally hitting the airwaves. The video is our way of celebrating our friendship, and hope it goes on to relate to other such friendships like ours,” said Lama.

Interestingly, the song is journalist-turned musician Anup Ojha’s debut.

“I am happy to come up with my first song. It couldn’t be better than this song which celebrates a beautiful relation of friendship. I hope millions of Nepalis living abroad, far from their loved ones, can relate to this song, and feel nostalgic about their childhood and their special friends,” said an excited Ojha while talking about his experience.

Ojha has a history of writing music reviews, artist interviews, about concerts and national & international music celebrities.

The beautiful melody with a voice that tugs at the heart of every listener is accompanied with the song’s lyrics and stills from the movie.

Lai Lai spans the story of a young couple who are trying to keep their relationship alive despite the absence of a child.

The song has received 351,750 views so far and fans can’t stop talking about the lyrics, the music and most of all their favorite stars Bipin Karki and Namrata Shrestha.

Talking about his character in the movie Karki says, “I have tried to give the character some real-life resonances so that the audience can relate and empathize with him. In any project, be it in the past or now, my approach remains the same, which many have said goes against the grain of what a ‘hero’ in a Nepali film should be.”

The movie is yet another story from Nepali Director Dinesh Raut’s treasure trove of romantic dramas. Sharing his perspective on the song he said that the song captures the essence of the film to a certain extent.

The movie is Script writer Sushil Paudel’s first attempt at bringing a transition in the Nepali Film Industry which is characterized by poor stories and lack of creative portrayal.

Love Station in the Making
In the meanwhile, veteran Director Ujwal Ghimire is gearing up for his ‘dream project’ Love Station. The Nepali director is currently preparing for the principal photography scheduled in October 2018.

Ghimire’s upcoming ‘love story’ will feature Pradeep Khadka and Jassita Gurung in the leads, along with Siliguri Shraddha Chhetri and veteran actress Niruta Singh who will make a comeback with the film.

Ghimire has chosen Darjeeling for the movie, that’s where the film name gets its inspiration from.

Actors Khadka and Gurung have both expressed their excitement about working with the veteran director. Gurung says, “I’ve wanted to work with such a successful director for long, who wouldn’t?”

Sushant Kaji Shrestha Wins Mister Internet Popularity:
Nepal’s heart-throb Sushant Kaji Shrestha bagged the special  title Mister Internet Popularity at the ‘Man of the Year 2018’ pageant.

The charming lad was also successful in taking home other titles like Loo Chang Huat Model, Gold Haute Couture Model and Siam House Village Best Model.

To add to his list of attractive titles, he emerged as bronze medalist in Best Medalist in Best Vigor and Wildlife Photo Shoot Challenge as part of the Man of the Year 2018 pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Shrestha is a Civil Engineering student from White House Institute of Science & Technology. Currently, he is a co-founder at Kaji Trading Co. Ltd., an online store.

Ayachu becomes Nepal’s new young beauty queen to win a crown. Amidst all the lights and glam at the 16^th Kid Queen Nepal, Achayu stood enjoying the limelight along with the runners-up. Shrestha also won the title of ‘Best Dress’.

The event was organized by Nepalese Fashion Home at the Rastriya Sava Griha. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Hari Prava Khadgi was invited as the Chief Guest for the event.

Priya Rani to Represent Nepal:
In the latest update, Nepal’s Priya Rani Lama is all set to represent her country at an international pageant, ‘Face of Beauty International 2018’.

The event is scheduled to begin on September 7, 2018 at the Indian capital, New Delhi. 28-year old Priya is a TV Presenter at Nepal 1 Television and Goodwill Ambassador for Sakshyam Foundation.

This will be Priya’s fourth appearance at a beauty pageant after her participation in Miss Purwanchal 2010, where she was conferred first runner-up.  Rani has also participated in Miss Nepal 2010 and Miss Nepal 2015.

The five-day FSA 2017 festival being celebrated with the theme ‘Documentary Bears Witness’, is set to screen a total of 63 films selected from more than 300 submissions, the highest number of films being screened in the festival’s history.

Festival of Documentaries

The films to be screened at the festival include documentaries on current affairs that portray the public life and living in the region.

“South Asia is going through hard times and the documentaries we have curated for the festival reflect the human condition of the region,” says Kanak Mani Dixit, Chair of FSA, speaking at a press meet organized a day before the festival opening on November 02, 2017.

According to FSA Director Mitu Varma, “The audience also has a unique opportunity of viewing 12 Documentaries of Dissent, which have been banned or censored in other parts of South Asia.”

Pointing out at the functioning of film censorship across South Asia, Varma claimed that this festival reflects the courage of filmmakers in revealing truth through such films in the festival.

Mani Dixit and Mitu Varma said Kathmandu has the best audience for non-fiction films in South Asia and the organizers have also expressed their willingness to organize rescreening in line with the demand.

Festival Began with Documentaries of Dissent

The festival kickstarted on November 02, 2017 at Yala Maya Kendra with the screening of Student Films and Documentaries of Dissent, along with a masterclass by the festival Chief Guest Sashi Kumar.

The program moved on further with a grand evening ceremony screening Chandrasekhar Reddy’s Fireflies in the Abyss that depicts the life of Nepali migrant workers working in coal pits of Meghalaya. 

“While every film in the festival is worth your time, some of films such as Holy Cow, Sawari, Among the Believers and Satisaal in Inferno should not be missed,” says Dixit in a press meet.

To help the audience, the organisers have categorized the films by sub-genres and have also released a mobile app- Film Southasia 2017 that gives complete details about the event.

The event, being organized by Project Sarangi, will host live performances by over 90 musicians and bands such as Sakchyam, Miku and Panchamrit, among others. 

The show is primarily targeted at encouragement of young Nepali musicians passionate about and playing traditional folk instruments.

 “The event was organized to provide a platform for upcoming musicians dabbling in different forms of Nepali ethnic music and creating music out of traditional folk instruments,” says Kiran Nepali of Project Sarangi.

“We will have traditional percussion groups, Tungna players from the mountains and the youths who have been pursuing traditional-enriched instruments, for the event,” he adds.

Project Sarangi is a group of sarangi players that works for the preservation and promotion of the Sarangi art by crafting souvenirs and professional-grade instruments to encourage the craftsmanship alive.

The organization has also been conducting various special classes for Sarangi players across the Kathmandu Valley.

Through this concert, Project Sarangi intends to bring out budding musicians who have been in the Project’s three-month long workshop that was held from March-May 2017.

The concert starts has been scheduled to begin at 2 pm and lasts till 8 PM on November 04, 2017.

Screening of Eight Films

The festival commenced with the screening of director Ram Shekhar Nakarmi’s film ‘Pankhaa’ (Wall) which had received the prestigious Future of Asia Award in Japan. This was followed by three other Newari films, ‘Thama Mhugu Gaa’, ‘Kalli’ and ‘Chandra Man’.

On the second day, four films ‘Kathaha’, ‘Tapalay’, ‘Lidhansaa’ and ‘Tin Tika Maha Bika’ are scheduled to be screened.

Biraj Kaji Rajopadhyaya, General Secretary of NFS said, “Filmmakers create movies with dedication and they have an emotional attachment with the films. But, they do not get the exposure in mainstream media because such films barely go through registration and censorship. Such movies carry social values, history and information, and should be given a platform for screening.”

He opined that the festival provides an ideal platform for networking with people from the industry that can lead to the further development of Newari films.

Honoring Newari Actors

Veteran actor and comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha, who is well known for his method acting, and actress Chaitya Devi Singh will be felicitated during the festival’s closing ceremony today.
