Good news to all the mountaineers!

Nepal, which houses 8 of the highest mountain peaks in the world, has started issuing permits for climbing the Himalayan mountains in this autumn season.

On Tuesday, the Tourism Department has issued mountaineering permits to two groups, the first permit of the Autumn expedition season that starts in September.

According to the Department of Tourism, one expedition group has 15 members, while the other has 10 members. The teams are set to scale Mt. Manaslu, the world’s eighth tallest peak at 8,163 meters.

The DoT has collected a total of NPR 2.646 million as royalty from the climbers.

    Department of Tourism Nepal

Expedition company ‘Imagine Nepal Trek and Expedition’ is organizing the climb for the 15-member team.

Company director Mingma Gyalje Sherpa said that a Chinese climber would lead the expedition team.

“There are two climbers from China and other climbers from different countries,” Sherpa said. “The Chinese climber who is leading the team had climbed Mt. Lhotse in the spring season but stayed in Nepal due to flight restrictions amid the second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal.”

He also informed that the expedition team will start their summit to Mt. Manaslu after all the members have completed their quarantine for ten days in Kathmandu.

    Nepal Mountaineering

Usually, most mountaineers summit the Himalayan mountains in spring season, but a few try their luck in autumn season also.

In the last autumn season, the DoT has issued climbing permits for eight teams comprising 58 mountaineers to climb five peaks.

In spring season this year, a total of 633 mountaineers and their supporting staff scaled six peaks, including Mt. Everest, the world’s tallest at 8848.86 meters.

Nepal’s tallest mountains Everest and Lhotse will remain unscaled this autumn climbing season as a group of mountaineers have left their expedition midway citing unfriendly weather conditions.

According to Spanish ultra-runner Kilian Jornet, he left his climb to the summit of Mt. Everest midway after he reached the final point on South Col at 8,400 m. Jornet and his team members had planned to scale Mount Lhotse as well.

“All climbers today gave up their attempts to climb Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in the autumn season,” said Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides.

According to the expedition organizers, even Polish climbers such as skiing expert Andrzej Leszek Bargiel decided to leave their climb to Mount Everest halfway this autumn season.

Situated on the south-west side of Kathmandu valley, this tourist attraction is located 7km from Thankot and is about 2551 meters above sea level.

    Chandragiri Hill Nepal

    Religious Symbolism:

The hill relates to both Buddhist and Hindu religions. The famous Bhaleshore Mahadev temple sits at the peak of the Chandragiri hill.

There are several folklores attached to this temple but the most important one essays the story of Lord Shiva who carried his wife, Satidevi’s dead body around the world, unable to bear grief. It is believed that her Bhala (forehead) fell at the spot of the temple, transforming it into a ‘Shakti sthala’.

People believe that whoever comes to worship Bhaleshore, get their wishes granted and will find a place in Shivaloka in the afterlife.

According to legend, King Prithvi Narayan Shah worshipped in the temple before he could conquer the valley as part of his unification campaign.

    A Sneak-Peak Around:

While the Bhaleshore Mahadev is the center of attention, other tourist attractions include the View Tower, Children’s playCable Car Ride Nepalground, the Chandragiri shopping center, a pony ride, Amphitheater and the Corporate Conference Center.

And yes of course the Cable Car Ride! The view of the vast valley adorned by the snow-capped Himalayan range will take you to a different realm, altogether. One can never get enough of this heavenly view.

    Grab a bite!

The splendid views of the valley may be enough to feed your soul but what about feeding the foodie in you? While there are many restaurants out there, you can try out some interesting eateries in and around the View Tower.

    Map Your Way:

With the introduction of the cable car, the 2.5 km drive to the stop station is a matter of 9 minutes. Additionally, there is a 11 km off-road drive to the top. For those who’d love to quench their thirst for adventure can take a 3-hour hike along a designated trail.
