The song is written by BB Thapa and was released by OSR Digital through their YouTube platform on August 09, 2019.

Speaking on similar lines is a play running at Battisputali’s Shilpee Theater since November 23, 2018.

Playwright Surendra Berma wrote the realistic play about ordinary people’s simple lifestyle.

The play opens with the scene of an amateur theater group’s rehearsal, where actor Kumar is directing an Indian classical drama ‘Abhigyan Shakuntalam’ with unusual characters.

In a press statement by theater group Actor Studio, the story progresses to showcase the group’s hunt for an actress.

Character Kanak enters the scene to end Kumar and his group’s quest for an actress. As Kanak and Kumar begin to enact play characters Dushyanta and Shakuntala, they relive their love story in real.

Things take a strange turn when real-life Shakuntala, Kanak becomes pregnant. But as Dushyanta finds the lost ring in time to reunite with his muse, will Kumar find a fitting ring for Kanak?

Book a ticket and grab a seat to watch this mystical play unfold!

“I hope to see Suraj as a good director through this drama,” says Actors Studio’s Artistic Director Anup Baral.

Baral hopes that this engaging drama will add a unique flavor in Nepali theater aura and wished the team luck for the play.

The play will continue until December 22, 2018.

In early 1990s, three students from Pokhara, Deepak Rana (now a Chopper pilot), Bhim Poon (now settled in Hong Kong) and Amrit Gurung formed Nepathya. In its 21 years of existence, Nepathya witnessed various shifts in its band line-up, including entries and exits of 19 members.

But, it’s only Amrit Gurung who has been with Nepathya since its inception.

Nepathya Reflects Gurung’s Life

Keeping aside his role as a Founder and Manager of Nepathya, Amrit Gurung is the only member who never left the band and is currently the leader & lead vocalist of the band. The other band members include Dhurba Lama (joined Nepathya in 2001 as a drummer), Suraj Kumar Thapa (joined as a keyboardist in 2003), Subin Shakya (joined as a bass guitarist in 2004) and Niraj Gurung.

Nepathya’s path reflects Gurung’s life. “Being in Nepathya is like being part of a serious journey. Anyone who deviates from team spirit and artistic commitment finds it hard to stay with the team,” says Gurung.

From its first-ever performance in the United States in Summer 2012 to becoming the first Nepali music band to perform in the United Kingdom on August 3, 2013 to, Nepathya received huge applause for its stage shows across the globe, especially in UK, USA, Australia, Israel, Germany, Finland and India.

The Wembley Arena Concert in UK was the biggest ever performance from Nepathya, where the band successfully entertained 8000 Wembley crowd, which mostly included Nepalese living in UK and Europe.

“It is like a dream come true to play at Wembley,” said Amrit Gurung on the sidelines of the event.

Nepathya is famous for blending folk melodies with western-influenced rock music. The band is also well-known for its contemporary tunes that have links with the indigenous Nepali songs sung using regional dialects of rural Nepal.

Even though Nepathya started with folk pop, it went on to play contemporary rock and folk rock as well. Nepathya’s albums mostly speak about love, nature, patriotism, current issues and peace.

As per the latest update, the Nepathya team is embarking on another two-day musical tour to the United States for their fifth concert in the country at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas, on June 9, 2018. Nepathya’s first tour to US took place in 2004 where they formed at Phoenix and Washington DC, and continued for further concerts over the years at different places such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and San Francisco.

Other Interests of Gurung

Apart from Nepathya, Gurung is also involved into various other activities. Social and peace initiative taken by Gurung in Nepal, in the past decade, received wide response from all sections of the Nepali society.

Along with Nepathya, Gurung also heads the music wing under nepa-laya and is also active in research on Nepali folk music, for which, he travels extensively through the country.

When I am not on concert tours, I travel across Nepal on foot. From the villages of the far-west to the east, from the Himals to the Tarai, wherever I go, I find food and shelter through my Nepali language, said Gurung in an instance.

Early Life

Amrit Gurung struggled hard for livelihood in his early life. His hobbies, painting and photography, earned him bread in the past. “I did my study through the income of my paintings and earned my bread by photographing weddings,” says Gurung.

However, Gurung left his painting hobby as he found a passionate musician in him. “I lost my habit of playing with colors and instead started to play with music. I neither had a music teacher nor any type of formal training. I had always loved music,” says Gurung.

Eventually, his passion drove him to come up with Nepathya, along with the other three members.

Down to Earth

Huge following and celebrity status did not change the lifestyle of Amrit Gurung. According to Gurung, simplicity & positive attitude makes a better living.

“It wouldn’t be strange for someone to see me riding down the highway in a truck or sitting on the lap of mountain reading a book. I have never seen myself as a star nor do I try to be. I enjoy both the sad & happy parts of my life and look at every moment as a positive one. This way of thinking has made my life rich. My life is beautiful the way it is,” says Gurung.

Talking about his successful career, Amrit Gurung says, “I went on singing for my own satisfaction and I got satisfaction by what music gave me.”

The two-day musical fest, held during November 17-18, 2017, is featuring 16 bands and artists including Nepali rock scene and others such as Cobweb, Monkey Temple, Shadows and Jindabaad.

Upcoming acts such as Didi Bahini, Pahenlo Batti Muni, Ma and Swopna Suman will also be featured at the festival.

Besides, the festival will also see a special performance by the renowned Tungna player Bir Bahadur Biswokarma. This will be a fundraiser show for Biswokarma, who has been putting in efforts despite his visually-impairment, solely by playing Tungna in his native district of Sindhupalchok.

Apart from musical performances, the fest will also feature poetry recitals by renowned poets Nawaraj Parajuli and Samip Dhungel.

“Through the fest, we aim to promote the Nepali music scene, and provide a platform for musical acts to perform and connect to the audience. We want more and more youths to get in touch to the Nepali music scene, which we believe would go on to uplift the existing condition of the industry,” says Festival Manager Prajjwal Kattel.

Beginning with a special performance by Electric Air, the first day of the fest will witness a total of eight acts and concludes with the Shadows’ performance. Gaming stalls and food stalls are other special attractions of the festival.

The festival, began back in 2012, is run by over 80 volunteers and sponsored by Tuborg.

The key objective of the festival is to bring together the Nepali music scene together onto a single platform to promote Nepali music.

The top three finalists of the renowned Nepali singing reality show, Nepal Idol, are currently in London tour to perform five different shows across the United Kingdom.

As part of the tour, Buddha Lama, Nishan Bhattarai and Pratap Das delivered their first of the five musical concerts on November 10, 2017 amid a presence of 700 London audience.

The three singers enthused the local audience with famous hits such as Aaha Kalilo Tamalai, Herda Ramro Machhapuchhre, Guransai Fulyo and Gorkhali ko Chhoro Ma, among others.

“I am really grateful to all the audience in the United Kingdom who voted for me. During the concerts, I plan to provide as much entertainment as I can. I mostly plan to sing rock songs,” says Buddha Lama, the Nepal Idol 2017.

The second concert took place at Hawkins’ Community Centre and the series is going to conclude with a final show at the Asian Community Hall on November 12, 2017.

Top ten finalist at the Nepal Idol 2017 Pramila Rai and Singer and Vocalist of Kandara band Bibek Shrestha are accompanying the three Nepali singers in their London tour.

While Buddha Lama won the main title, Nishan Bhattarai and Pratap Das remained as the runners at the first edition of Nepal Idol called Nepal Idol 2017.
