In an eventful ‘final match’ of the Twenty20 International series at ICC Academy Dubai, Nepal sealed another impressive series-win after the ODI with UAE.

The Nepal team gained a winning end despite a dull defeat on the first match of the T20I series.

Winning team Nepal secured a total score of 104-8 against UAE’s 90-8, winning the match by 14 runs!

A rare desert rain would be enough to dampen the mood for any match but not for Nepal who was focused on winning! The Nepali side waited for two hours and 15 minutes due to bad weather.

Soon after, they were ready to take on UAE and level the Nepal Vs UAE T20I scoreboard to 2-1!

And their efforts did pay off when team captain Paras Khadka and Karan KC-Abinash Bohara’s bowling partnership gave Nepal the desired-victory!

    Match in Progress

The final match of the Nepal-UAE T20I was reduced to 10 overs for each team owing to bad weather.

The game began in favor of UAE with captain Mohammad Naveen claiming Pawan Sarraf’s wicket at just the fourth ball of the match. Soon after which Gyanendra Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee lost wickets, leaving Nepal limping at a score of 21-3.

However, captain Khadka was quick to the rescue as always. With support from Jora, the duo took Nepal to the beginning of the final over. Amir Hayat’s strong defense in the 10th and final over sealed Nepal’s fate at 104.

UAE continued its success streak in batting too when Ghulam Shabber replied to Sandeep’s deliveries with a four and six, respectively off the first two balls!

Going along, UAE’s spirits continued to soar despite Ashfaq Ahmed’s fall at the end of the second over.

After Ahmed, Shaiman Anwar marked his arrival with a sixer off KC’s delivery and continued to fight Sompal Kami for another blaster towards the end of the fourth over, taking UAE to 50-1.

The Nepal team bowlers kept paving the way for catches and the fielders left no opportunity to convert them into wickets. With the task of securing 33 runs off the last three overs, Shaiman carefully began the eight over but was quickly bowled by Malla.

This wicket was followed by another five wickets from UAE in the next 14 deliveries! As the game continued, UAE struggled to maintain a strong front against Nepal’s railing attack.

Sultan Ahmed was the last to deliver a pair of twos off the last two balls, paving way for Nepal’s second significant victory against UAE, after the ODI series in January 2019!

The Nepali cricket team defeated Hong Kong in a keenly-fought encounter between the two sides in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers match played at Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on March 12, 2018.

With this victory, the Nepali team improved its chances of qualifying to play as a full-fledged One Day International (ODI) nation.

    Superlative Bowling from Sandeep!

Opting to bat first, Hong Kong managed to score 153 runs before falling out at the 49th over. Spin sensation Sandeep Lamichhane took three wickets conceding just 17 runs in addition to bowling an astounding 53 dot balls in 10 overs.

Seamer Karan KC and left-arm spinner Basant Regmi took a couple of wickets each. Regmi also bowled four maiden overs in his spell.

For Hong Kong, opener Nizakat Khan was the top scorer with 47 runs, while skipper Babar Hayat scored 20 runs.

    Paudel Leads the Chase

Chasing a 154-run target, Nepal got off to a poor start and were reeling at 66-5 at one stage. However, 15-year old Rohit Paudel and all-rounder Sompal Kami went on for an unbroken partnership of 89 runs to lead Nepali team to victory.

Paudel was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ for his unbeaten 48, which included five boundaries. Kami remained not-out with 37 runs.

    Net run-rate plays Spoilsport

Despite securing equal points with Afghanistan by virtue of the win over Hong Kong, Nepal narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Super Sixes with a slightly-lower net run-rate.

However, all is not lost for the Nepali team. It will now hope to defeat Papua New Guinea in the first match of the consolation bracket playoff and secure its ODI status.

Nepal has recently achieved a major milestone in the cricket history by securing its position in the 2019 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament to be held in Zimbabwe in March 2018.

In a recent update in this regard on February 20, 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has also announced the 19-member Nepali cricket team that would be playing the Qualifiers tournament.

The team to be led by Captain Paras Khadka and Vice-Captain Gyanendra Malla has Dipendra Singh Airee, Aarif Sheikh, Rohit Kumar Poudel, Dillip Nath, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Sharad Bheshwakar, Sompal Kami, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Anil Kumar Sah and Lalit Bhandari.

Besides the main team, ICC has also selected Kishor Mahato, Siddhant Lohani, Binod Bhandari and Sunil Dhamala as reserve players.

It is noteworthy here that Nepal has recently secured its entry to the Qualifier round through the astonishing victory it has garnered in the ICC World Cricket League Division-2 match with Canada on February 14, 2018.

Despite its win against Canada, Nepal moved to Group B in the Qualifier round because of its final defeat against UAE in the Division-2 final match against UAE.

Nepal will be facing Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Scotland and Hong Kong in the Group B of the Qualifier round, with first match against the Zimbabwe team on March 04, 2018, followed by the second one with Scotland team on March 8, 2018, third with Afghanistan on March 10, 2018 and fourth with the Hong Kong team on March 12, 2018.

Whereas, Group A consists of UAE, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Scotland and Hong Kong.

The winner and first runner-up of these two groups will appear in the ICC World Cup 2019 slated to be held in England and Wales in 2019.

Continuing its success journey in the world cricket, Nepal is back again with an outstanding victory that secured its place in the most-awaited 2019 cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament to be held in Zimbabwe.

The Nepali cricket team registered one of the greatest victories in the country’s cricket history, in a
breathtaking ICC World Cricket League Division-2 match with Canada in Windhoek (Namibia) on February 14, 2018.

Despite a good batting line-up, Nepali team had to face an intense pressure in the last minutes of the match as they had a 51-run target in just 47 balls.

Here is where the team fought back!

Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane’s stunning 10th wicket partnership of 51 runs backed the team in chasing the 195-run target set by the Canadian cricket team.

    Striking 10th Wicket Partnership

At 144-9 score with the last 7.5 overs remaining, Nepal had almost thought of losing it out.

But, Karan’s entry made a difference!

With a striking and unbeatable performance, Karan hit four sixers in scoring 42 runs in just 31 balls, thus driving the team to success at the nick of the moment.

Karan was named ‘Man of the Match’.

Canadian team, which saw three straight wins in the tournament, was short of a single victory either over Namibia or Nepal for gaining an entry to the World Cup Qualifier tournament, and has finally lost it out.

Now, Nepal and UAE have secured their place for the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers tournament.

While Nepal is to face Papua New Guinea, Ireland, the Netherlands and two-time World Cup winner West Indies in the Group B qualifier round, the UAE will be facing Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Scotland and Hong Kong in the
    Group A qualifier.

    Awestruck!

“I can’t speak, the last wicket made 50 odd runs, cricket is just a winner today. I feel for Canada, one in a million times you would win those games. Things have just worked out for us, we have been working so hard for all these years and eventually it has happened for us, I am speechless,” said Nepali captain Paras Khadka, elated at the winning performance of his team.

Expressing satisfaction over Nepal’s first-ever entry to World Cup cricket, Khadka said, “The fans back home are one of our biggest inspirations and we always thank them. We want to do well, and help Nepal cricket grow.”
