]]>The Department closed the facility on April 29 as the second wave of pandemic swept through Nepal. Though the authority resumed issuing licenses, it was only for those who had previously applied before April 29.
The authority had only begun issuing these new licenses in September. The lack of application option didn’t allow new roadster aspirants to apply.
The Department accepted applications from Monday, stated the Department’s spokesman Lok Bhusal. However, the spokesman also stated that the Department could only accept a limited number of applications daily for each of the offices.
The Department has sped things up as the new applications, who successfully submitted the applications, will be eligible to undertake the test soon. This was previously not the case as one had to wait for months to take the test despite successful submission.
The new applicants have to undertake written and practical exams. The Department has revised the examination rules, and one has to know the changed rules before taking the tests.

]]>The Himalayan government has saved NPR 3 billion in fuel transport costs in the span of 2 years after the construction of its first fuel pipeline.
The first cross-border fuel pipeline in South Asia connects Motihari of India to Amlekhgunj of Nepal.
The Nepal-India fuel pipeline, which became operational in September 2019, can transport petroleum products at the rate of 294 Klph.
According to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), around 3,500 Kl of diesel is being imported from India daily through the pipeline.
In fiscal years 2019/20 and 2020/21, Nepal imported 1.61 billion liters of diesel by using the pipeline. In just 2 months of the current FY 2021/22, the country imported a total of 124.41 million liters of diesel through the pipeline.
“It costs an average of NPR 45,000 to transport the fuel from the Barauni depot of India to Amlekhgunj of Nepal,” said Pradip Kumar Yadav, chief of Amlekhgunj depot of NOC. “The pipeline has helped cut the costs of fuel tankers apart from reducing technical losses.”

]]>Despite having a wider reach than NAC, the Department of Postal Services took this decision as Thai Airways no longer had a regular flight service to Kathmandu since 2020.
Due to the irregular flight service of Thai Airways, the department signed an agreement with NAC designating the carrier as the official transport for international communications.
The department’s Director-General Aabha Shreshta Karna and NAC General Manager Dim Paudel signed the agreement, which will take effect from July 1.
Both the officials concurred that the deal would save millions of rupees that the Department of Postal Services paid to the Thai airline.
While NAC has been assigned to transport messages and packages to the world, Air India will continue to be Nepal’s messenger to India alone.

]]>The post New Transport System to Address Traffic Woes in Kathmandu Valley appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>According to Transport Department Management Spokesperson Gokarna Prasad Upadhyay, the 66 new routes would come into effect from mid-December 2018.
The new plan comes as a scientific approach to address traffic jams spread across hundreds of meters within the valley.
“The aim is to minimize long traffic jams in the Valley and cut down hassles of travelling by managing how public vehicles ply along the roads. Issuing route permits to public vehicles has not been systematic so far. It lacks sustainable planning. We are revising all routes now, ” said Upadhyay.
The new routes come as a result of a study under the Kathmandu Sustainable Urban Transport Project (KSUTP).
Supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the project seeks to make urban transport system more efficient, sustainable and safe. To bring about this scenario, it provides recommendations including upgradation of the existing public transport network and provision of a safer environment for pedestrians.
Upadhyay said as per the recommendations, the entire transport network will be divided into three routes— primary, secondary and tertiary.
KSUTP study has suggested 16 secondary routes and 42 tertiary routes for Kathmandu Valley after a thorough assessment of passenger flow in the region.
Furthermore, the improvisation will replace 200 existing routes with just 66 route permits.
