The Clean Feed Policy, announced last year by the Information and Communication Ministry of Nepal, had set a deadline of October 23, 2020, for all cable operators to take appropriate measures for continued broadcast.

With the end of the deadline, many international channels, especially Indian channels, have been taken off the air for failing to abide by the policy rules.

So far, only 22 out of 92 internationals channels have made necessary amendments as per the new policy.

According to the Managing Director of Dish Home Sudip Acharya, 32 channels under Star India have gone off-air due to the new policy. Even the major channels like CNN and BCC have been barred from broadcasting.

“When the sports channels were turned off due to clean feed, Nepalis could not even watch the Indian Premier League (IPL) of the season 2020. So far, only 22 channels have come to clean feed,” said Sudhir Parajuli, President of Subisu Cable Net Pvt. Ltd.

“Apart from a few exceptions, almost all foreign channels carry commercials made by multinationals and conglomerates for which Nepali viewers are paying monthly charges, while the domestic advertising industry is shrinking. Hence, the need for implementation of clean feed,” states the policy.

According to a recent update, Sandeep has joined the Melbourne Stars to represent the team in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season.  

Under the new deal, Sandeep will join the squad by December 10, 2018, prior to his upcoming matches in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on January 05, 2019.

After BPL, Sandeep will return to Australia for BBL games.

Journey with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in January 2018 made Sandeep a perfect choice in the world T20 cricket, which continued further to Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Afghanistan Premier League (APL), BPL and the upcoming BBL.

Surprisingly, Sandeep will be the first player from the Associate Country to play BBL.

Sandeep already has an experience working with Australian teams. In 2016, he represented played for the Sydney-based club Western Suburbs upon invitation from the renowned Australian cricketer Michael Clarke.

During the course of his season-long stay in Australia, Sandeep underwent training in the Clarke Cricket Academy in Sydney.

The country’s favorite spinner and Nepal’s new challenge to the world cricket, Sandeep Lamichhane bagged another biggie very recently!

In a recent update, the Nangarhar Cricket Squad of Afghanistan decided to rope in Nepal’s young spinning sensation Sandeep for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL).

Sandeep was chosen for his past achievements of playing for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Canada’s Global T20 and the Caribbean Premier League as Nepal’s first-ever participant in the international premier leagues.

Surprisingly, Sandeep was the only one chosen from the Nepali national cricket team.

In the IPL auction held in Bengaluru (India) on January 28, 2018, Indian IPL team Delhi Daredevils proposed Sandeep’s name making him the first Nepali cricketer to get featured in IPL.

Surprisingly, Sandeep was compared to the world’s renowned Australian spinner Shane Warne and was priced INR 2 million in the auction.

“The first Nepali player in the history of the Vivo IPL! It gives us great pleasure to welcome the 17-year-old leg-spinner @IamSandeep25 into the #DDSquad! 17-year-old sensation with a knack for picking up wickets, @IamSandeep25 will be vying to do his country proud come the Vivo IPL season!” the club confirmed in an official tweet.

In reply, Sandeep tweeted, “Very happy to be announced as the player of @DelhiDaredevils for this season of @IPL! Special thanks to all those people who kept me in their prayers withholding their nerves! Journey begins now!!”

Excited at the news, Sandeep went on to say that he would take his country to the next level.

“This is the result of my dedication and hard work and I am hoping for the best to do well. I’ll try my best to do well which could open the gates for other players in future,” he added.

Sandeep’s actual cricket journey began at Chitwan Cricket Academy where he grabbed the attention of former national team skipper Raju Khadka.

His life took a special turn at the age of 14 when the Canadian coach Pubudu Dassanayake picked up Sandeep for the youth team camp.

Further, Sandeep drew a global attention with his entry into the ICC U-19 World Cup squad in 2016 where he bagged five wickets including a hat-trick in a match with Ireland.

He further got an opportunity to get trained in the Michael Clarke’s academy run by the Australian skipper Michael Clarke.

Elated at Sandeep’s entry to IPL, Khadka said, “I felt like I have rediscovered myself today. This is awesome and good for Lamichhane and Nepali cricket as a whole. I knew from the very beginning that he would make it big one day.”

Meanwhile, Clarke tweeted, “To the people of Nepal, you should be very proud of @IamSandeep25, he is little champion who wants to do his country proud. Cheer him on and enjoy the journey with him. God bless you.”

“Congratulations to all the Nepalese, the cricket players, the crazy fans and everyone associated with Nepal Cricket. ‪A very proud moment to be a Nepali cricket player today…‪Well done Sandeep Lamichhane,” said Nepal national team skipper Paras Khadka in his official Facebook post.

Former Nepal national cricket team captain and Nepali U-19 cricket team head coach Binod Das tweeted, “Congratulations @IamSandeep25. You have made us proud. Thank u @DelhiDaredevils for the opportunity to this young kid from a tour cricketing nation. #supportdelhidaredevils #ipl2018.”

Sandeep is currently in Dubai tour as part of the Nepal national cricket team’s preparation for the ICC World Cricket League Division-II planned in Namibia in February 2018.

Nepal’s EPL Twenty20 cricket tournament, a significant step towards development of the country’s cricket sport, is coming after an 8-month-long suspension faced by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and was sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Nepali Premier League (NPL) tournament, being organized by a private entity, marks the first-ever auction of local cricket players at the national-level and will also see the participation of international cricket players.

EPL Pvt. Ltd. unveiled the championship trophy on December 17, 2017 with the Indian cricketer Arun Lal as one of key dignitaries at the event.

“EPL is a start of something big which is very essential. Indian Premier League (IPL) has not only raised generation of cricketers, but also changed the face of sport in India. EPL is providing an environment where cricketing potential can prosper,” Lal said in his address at the inaugural event.

While Bhairahawa Gladiators is the only team that announced international players, Sri Lankan cricketer Farveez Maharoof is the only biggest name associated with EPL so far.

“There are players coming in from other countries making it a tournament that we had never competed in. This has certainly lifted the level of Nepali cricket. The international players have the experience of playing in high-level cricket. Their presence also means an opportunity for us to learn a lot of things from them,” says Sharad Vesawkar, Gladiators’ team lead.

Kathmandu Kings Vs. Lalitpur Patriots

The first match under the tournament will see an intense battle between Kathmandu Kings XI, led by the Sri Lankan cricketer Farveez Maharoof, and Nepali cricketer Gyanendra Malla’s Lalitpur Patriots team.

“The first match of the tournament is always going to be important for us. The playing conditions look pretty decent here. We have a good squad and hopefully we are going to make a winning start,” says Maharoof.

Speaking on the inaugural match, Lal had earlier stated, “If you have a 19-year old home-grown talent who ends up bowling out Maharoof for a duck, it instils a huge amount of self-belief.”

While Kathmandu Kings has Sri Lankan cricketer Akshu Fernando and Sagar Kumar of India as squads, its rival Lalitpur Patriot roped in Indian players including the former Delhi Daredevils all-rounder Yogesh Nagar, Subod Bhati and Jaykishan Kolsawala.

“I think they (Kings XI) have become even better by the inclusion of Maharoof because Kings XI are already a better side. We have a balanced squad and would like to play the best cricket to return with victory,” says Malla.
