The exciting grand finale of ‘Miss Nepal 2019’, held at Laboratory School, Kirtipur on May 09, 2019, saw Anushka Shrestha winning the main title, fighting out all the 25 contestants in the race.

Yes, now Anushka Shrestha is officially the ‘Miss Nepal 2019’!

As part of the event, the ‘Miss Nepal 2018’ title holder Shrinkhala Khatiwada handed over the crown to Anushka.

Pradipta Adhikari grabbed the Miss Nepal Universe 2019, while Riya Basnet was announced for the Miss Nepal Earth 2019, Meera Kashyapati for the Miss Nepal International 2019 and Rose Lama for the Miss Nepal Supranational 2019.

About Anushka Shrestha

Newly-crowned Anushka Shrestha is a Kathmandu girl currently living in Sydney.

The 23-year-old Anushka is a commerce graduate in education and has been working with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the country’s leading financial institution, since two years.

Responding to a question by ‘Miss Nepal’ panel: “what is your take on the cliche that if we paid attention more to the responsibilities than rights, we would make the world better,” Anushka said, “Rights and responsibilities are the two sides of the same coin. The world would automatically turn out to be beautiful if we fulfilled out responsibilities at our level.”

This shows the level of confidence that Anushka holds and also reflects the message of her success mantra ‘big picture, small step’!

So, what are you waiting for? The hunt has begun for Nepal’s fashion icon for 2019!

As per the official announcement, the organizers are welcoming girls in the age group of 19-25 years.

The interested applicants should meet the following criteria to get into the competition:

• Height: 5.4 inches
• Status: Unmarried
• Education: Minimum plus two or equivalent
• No tattoo on the body
• Age should be between 19-25 years (as of December 31, 2019)
• Should be a Nepali Citizen or holding Nepali Passport for Non-Resident Nepalis

The auditions will be held across major cities of Nepal beginning from March 13, 2019:

• March 13-15, 2019: Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Butwal, and Pokhara
• March 17-19, 2019: Chitwan, Birgunj, Dharan and Birtamod
• March 24, 2019: Final auditions in Kathmandu
• May 09, 2019: Grand finale in Kathmandu

A total of 20-25 candidates will be shortlisted after the final audition, who will have to undergo 7-week long training.

Choreographer Rachana Gurung Sharma is handling the life-changing grooming session, while Glamour Photographer Raj Bhai Suwal will handle photography and former Miss Nepal Earth Roshni Khatri will be the Activation Coordinator for the event.

Sushma Singh from Women’s Planet, Ashutosh Aggarwal from Natraj Boutique and Fashion Designer Manish Rai are the wardrobe designers.

As per the official information, the finals of Miss Nepal 2019 will also be the winners of Miss Nepal Oceania, Miss Hong Kong Nepal, Miss Purwanchal, Miss Pokhara, Miss Paschimanchal and Miss Chitwan in direct placement as affiliation to Miss Nepal pageant.

Besides Miss Nepal World, Miss Nepal Universe, Miss Nepal Earth, Miss Nepal International, and Miss Nepal 2019 beauty pageant winners will also be chosen for other global beauty contests as Nepal’s representation.

Miss Nepal World 2018 Shrinkhala Khatiwada, Miss Nepal Universe 2018 Manita Devkota, Miss Nepal Earth 2018 Priya Sigdel, Miss Nepal International 2018 Ronali Amatya and Miss Nepal Supranational 2018 Mahima Singh were the special attractions at the Miss Nepal 2019 announcement press meet.

And, they have always received wide applaud from local and global audience for their charming faces. But, one disappointing aspect continues to haunt them…

That’s #socialmediatrolls and bullying! Yes, you read it right.

Miss Nepal contestants of the Himalayan nation have been facing severe and straight-on-face criticism from their online audience. Unlike previous contestants, Nepal Miss World 2018 face #ShrinkhalaKhatiwada seems to be little lucky and on a safer side of this trend as majority supported her.

And, what’s surprising is that the social media troller did not miss to troll the earlier contestants, taking Shrinkhala’s occasion.

Although missing the Miss World 2018 Title, Shrinkhala became successful in bringing home the Miss Multimedia and Beauty with a Purpose awards.

When Niti Shah, the second Miss Nepal runner-up for 2017, congratulated Shrinkhala on her achievement, Nepali netizens did not wait even for a second to ask Shah as to ‘why she failed to do so the last year?’

Nikita Chandak, the Miss World Nepal 2017, also faced a similar embarrassing situation from social media trollers when she was crowned with the title in 2017. She was badly abused, criticized on her physical appearance, complexion and ethnicity.

Rojina Shrestha is another victim of this disappointing trend. #Onlinetrollers did not hesitate to make bad comments on her physical appearance when she was crowned with the ‘Miss Earth Nepal’ title.

It’s really heartening to read how Rojina felt on these comments!

“Although I haven’t been bullied much compared to Nikita and Niti, I have been receiving criticism for my body since I was crowned. And, it isn’t limited to online. People say it right in front of my face,” says Rojina.

Beyond Fun…It’s a Matter of Serious Concern!
All this started when a known Nepali FB page titled ‘Friday Nepal’ posted a picture of Khatiwada with #MissMultimedia award, alongside morphed images of Chandak, Shah and #MissWorldNepal2016 Asmi Shrestha asking (in Nepali) Khatiwada as ‘how she managed to pull it off’ the awards.

However, the page admins removed the image later expressing their apologies.

“We were merely joking and didn’t give the joke much thought, it turned out to be insensitive and hurtful. They are our #MissNepal who has made our country proud. I feel extremely guilty for this act. Sorry for any aggravation this might have caused to three of them,” said the page admin.

Whatever, once posted online, its visible to everyone and might demotivate the ones subjected to that act.

Similar case happened with Shah in 2017 for her social media post about rural and urban women, which went viral. This drew huge #socialmediaattention! While some understood the essence of it, some criticized badly, leaving her in deep disappointment, all this exactly before her final contest day!

What would be more disappointing than this?
Social media trolling and other forms of illicit acts have left many in deep distress, especially #womencelebrities globally, damaging their reputation and demotivating them. And, Nepal stands no exception to this trend!

There are many such reported cases, especially the young women in the age group of 19-25 years who have just begun coming into limelight in their fresh career.

The trend has hurt many former Miss Nepal contestants in their career start. Many wanted to speak but refrained from doing so! In some cases, criticism continues to bother and traumatize even years after the actual incident.

“It was one day before the finals and I was traumatised. As I recall it now, I can’t let go of that incident. #Cyberbullying needs to be taken seriously. It really does hamper people’s state of mind and can lead to low self-esteem and depression. I couldn’t sleep for so many days. It almost led me to give up everything that I had achieved so far,” says Shah, sharing her bitter experience.

“I report, delete, or ignore most of the posts but sometimes I reply back when I feel it’s necessary but then again, they reply saying we are celebrities and we need to take criticism,” Shah adds.

Chandak is also seriously concerned about this illicit act.

“Beauty pageants are meant to be platforms for women empowerment, to make a woman feel confident about herself. Pitting one against another creates pressure and inferiority. People feel like they have the right to give their opinion in any language they want to. We do appreciate and accept constructive feedback, but bullies need to understand that the person they are writing to is also a human being with emotions,” says Chandak.

What more has to happen? Its high time for the Nepal Government to bring in stringent social media regulations to safeguard the basic rights of its social media users!

Khatiwada who is representing Nepal at the global beauty pageant in China’s Sanya beat finalists from Mexico and Kenya, respectively to secure her spot in the Top 30 finalists.

“The overall Multimedia Award based on all social media platforms, audience engagement, creative content and influence secured the winner with a place in the top 30 of Miss World Final 2018,” informed organizers.

Additionally, Nepal also won the Beauty with a Purpose Award and stood at ‘third’ position in the Miss World 2018 Sanya Tourism Video Challenge.

As part of the Miss World Multimedia Challenge this year, contestants were supposed to create a unique promotional video of Sanya.

The videos submitted by the beauties were impressive and revealed how much they enjoyed their stay in Sanya.

They were judged by a multimedia panel including Sanya Tourism Vice Chief Mr. Tang. Nepal made it to the Top five which included:

• Kenya – First
• China PR – Second
• Nepal – Third
• Puerto Rico – Fourth
• England – Fifth

But it was Nepal who walked away with the overall 2018 Miss World Multimedia Challenge title and became the automatic qualifier to the Top 30.

“Nepal took social media by storm, clicking her way to the number one spot, and securing her place in the Miss World Top 30; after winning the Multimedia challenge which evaluates the contestants based on all social media platforms, audience engagement, creative content and influence,” the official Miss World website reads.

Nepal will now join Top 30 finalists including France (Top Model Winner), Japan (Talent Winner), USA (Sports Woman) and South Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Speaking about this year’s Miss World Multimedia Challenge, organizers said that the competition has pushed boundaries, broken barriers and caused social media to be abuzz!

The 118 delegates attracted a staggering number of social media traffic from various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, MobStar, Twitter and ModelPowerLive.

The 2018 Miss World contestants have left no stone unturned in updating their social media platforms.

Contestants have creatively used their profiles to display a variety of content including their amazing pageant journey and showcasing the wonders of Mesmerizing Sanya beside highlighting the powerful work of Beauty With A Purpose.

Nepal has been making its presence felt in the world of beauty pageants such as Miss Nepal USA and Miss Nepal North America.

Sushant Kaji Shrestha Wins Mister Internet Popularity:
Nepal’s heart-throb Sushant Kaji Shrestha bagged the special  title Mister Internet Popularity at the ‘Man of the Year 2018’ pageant.

The charming lad was also successful in taking home other titles like Loo Chang Huat Model, Gold Haute Couture Model and Siam House Village Best Model.

To add to his list of attractive titles, he emerged as bronze medalist in Best Medalist in Best Vigor and Wildlife Photo Shoot Challenge as part of the Man of the Year 2018 pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Shrestha is a Civil Engineering student from White House Institute of Science & Technology. Currently, he is a co-founder at Kaji Trading Co. Ltd., an online store.

This is not the first time Shrestha has participated in a glamor pageant. Earlier, he participated in Mister & Miss Glamorous Icon 2018, where he was selected among the ‘Top 7 contenders’. Shrestha later emerged as ‘Mister Kathmandu 2018’ in Mister & Miss Kathmandu 2018 pageant held in July 2018.

Ayachu Shree Shrestha Becomes Kid Queen Nepal 2018
Ayachu becomes Nepal’s new young beauty queen to win a crown. Amidst all the lights and glam at the 16^th Kid Queen Nepal, Achayu stood enjoying the limelight along with the runners-up. Shrestha also won the title of ‘Best Dress’.

The event was organized by Nepalese Fashion Home at the Rastriya Sava Griha. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Hari Prava Khadgi was invited as the Chief Guest for the event.

Priya Rani to Represent Nepal:
In the latest update, Nepal’s Priya Rani Lama is all set to represent her country at an international pageant, ‘Face of Beauty International 2018’.

The event is scheduled to begin on September 7, 2018 at the Indian capital, New Delhi. 28-year old Priya is a TV Presenter at Nepal 1 Television and Goodwill Ambassador for Sakshyam Foundation.

This will be Priya’s fourth appearance at a beauty pageant after her participation in Miss Purwanchal 2010, where she was conferred first runner-up.  Rani has also participated in Miss Nepal 2010 and Miss Nepal 2015.

The pageant of international fame was started in 2012 with the name ‘Miss Teen Face of Beauty International 2012’.

Neupane beat 16 other finalists at Plano in Texas to take home the much-desired title and the star-studded crown on August 20, 2018.

The charming beauty has also received a scholarship worth USD 5,000 to support her academic career.

This new title makes her the Brand Ambassador for ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ campaign, an initiative by the Nepal Tourism Ministry.

Neupane who was declared also Miss Academic Excellence cheerfully told media about how she feels over her victory.

“I’m very happy and excited but most importantly I’m privileged and humbled,” says Neupane.

About her appointment as Brand Ambassador she says, “I look forward to working for the betterment of the Nepali society in the U.S. and in Nepal.” Following close to the crown were runners up Posha Gharti Thapa and Kriti Dhungel.

About Dilasha Neupane:
Neupane is currently pursuing medical education with focus on neurology. With the renowned title to her credit, she now has greater support for her cause of establishing ‘a healthier Nepal’ by improving the mortality rate caused due to heart diseases and respiratory infections.

Miss Nepal USA 2018 Pageant:
The pageant is a brainchild of Amit Shah, New York-based Ophthalmology Assistant.

Shah felt the need to introduce the pageant after noticing the eroding Nepali culture in US. In the pursuit to preserve this rare culture, Shah organized the first season of #MissNepalUSA in 2011.

“No matter whatever title or pageant, the winner’s life changes drastically, by so many ways and influence so many others, and they will be doing something good for the community, culture,” he said.

Adding further, Shah said, “In the 6 years, we had 6 (winners). And that means in 20 years, 20 more will be ready. Think how many more people will be influenced by those 20 role models.”

As part of the pageant, participants had to undergo a training of one week where they learnt skills such as presentation, question-answers on current central issues and cat-walk among others. The contestants were trained by former #MissNepal, Malina Joshi.

Conclusion:
This year the pageant opened doors for online public voting and much to the surprise of the organizers, votes worth USD 20,000 were received for the participants.

The funds will be provided to Soarway Foundation which is committed to rebuilding disaster-stricken Nepali communities.

Prestigious titles like Miss Nepal USA and Miss Nepal North America not only provide a platform to aspiring Non-resident Nepalis but empower them to work for the cause of building a ‘stronger and better Nepal’.

Following the announcement of this 23^rd edition of Nepal’s largest nationwide beauty pageant, beauty hunt began across the country and has drawn a huge response.

In a recent update, the organizer of the event Hidden Treasure came up with an update on the number of contestants finalized for the competition.

According to The Hidden Treasure (THT), a total of 25 contestants from eight different cities including Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara, Butwal, Nepalganj, Butwal and Dhangadi are going to compete in this national beauty contest in April.

“The competition will be tougher this time…We have beautiful, smart and intelligent participants not only from within Nepal but also those who have been residing abroad for a while,” says Gopal Sunder Lal Kakshapati, THT Chairman.

Miss Nepal means a lot for the contestants to shine at both national and global levels as the contestants for the international beauty pageants will be selected based on this national beauty contest.

The contestants are currently undergoing week-long training sessions, which includes recreational trips to Pokhara and surrounding areas along with a visit to tourism hub of Ghandruk.

As every year, Miss Nepal 2018 will also see four beauty titles including Miss Nepal Universe, Miss Nepal World, Miss Nepal Earth and Miss Nepal International, and the contest for Miss Nepal Asia Pacific is yet to be announced.

The grand finale of the Miss Nepal 2018 event will be held in Kathmandu on April 11, 2018.
