After a disappointing defeat in the first match of the tournament, the two sides are all set to test their luck at the second match scheduled on November 19, 2019 from 2:45 PM NST!

The match at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu will be a tough one for the teams as the location is situated at an elevation of 2500m above sea level.

The match had to shifted to this location due to ongoing renovation at Nepal’s Dasharath stadium.

Meanwhile, ANFA has reportedly removed four players from the Nepali team attending the Thimpu match.

Bimal Gharti Magar, Anjan Bista, Dinesh Rajbanshi and Santosh Tamang were officially removed for violating the code of the team.

“This is not acceptable for us. We will hold meeting after this match (Kuwait) and take severe action against the players”, ANFA spokesperson Rai said in a statement.

After the first leg of the Group B, Nepal had only 3 points bagged from wins against Chinese Taipei. However, they lost to Jordan, Kuwait and Australia later. In the first match, Kuwait had won against Nepal by 7-0.

Now, Kuwait has 7 points in its table, while Nepal has only 3. Now, it’s time for Nepal to test its luck and prove its ability.

The team made it to semi-finals of the tournament as group leaders after four continuous wins in the series.

While the first three consecutive wins gave the team the semi-final status, the group stage match held in Bangkok on January 16, 2018, gave it a 9-wicket win against the host country Thailand, making it topper of ‘Group A’ of the tournament.

Nepal team won the last match of the group stage reaching the 20-run target in just 3.3 overs, for the loss of one wicket. Mamata Kumari Chaudhary and Neri Thapa stood as top scorers with eight runs each, followed by Doli Bhatta (2 runs).

The team had defeated China, Malaysia, and UAE in the first three matches of the tournament.

The semi-final round will see the fight between Nepal and the second position team of Group ‘B’, and the winner will move to finals.

A 9-Nation, 10-Team Tournament T20 Smash Cricket

The Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT) is hosting the tournament that is being held from 
Jan 08-17, 2019.

This 9-nation, 10-team international T20 tournament has UAE, Nepal, Namibia, Malaysia and Thailand A in Group A, while Group B has Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Myanmar. The group series in a single round-robin league, followed by Semis and the Finals.

While top 2 from each group qualifies for the semi-finals round, the tournament presents a crucial time for the teams in February 2019 when the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifiers (Asia Region) will be held.

Two Nepali sportspersons, Judokas Indra Bahadur Shrestha and Manita Pradhan, are participating in the World Junior Judo Championship at Zagreb, Croatia being held from October 14-24, 2017.

Indra Bahadur and Manita Pradhan are representing Nepal in the men’s U-66 kg and women’s U-57 kg weight categories, respectively.

“This is the first time that Nepal is participating in junior world championship,” says Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, President of Nepal Judo Association (NJA).

National Coach Dal Bahadur Gurung and the team manager Babu Raja Maharjan are the other members of the Nepali team. 

The Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) Keshav Kumar Bista offered a farewell to the Nepali contestants at a program in Kathmandu, on October 13, 2017 and have left for Croatia on October 14, 2017. 

Good Opportunity for Nepali Players

Elated at the country’s participation, Bajracharya expressed hope that the championship would be a great platform for the Nepali participants for their future. They are currently at the age of 18 years.

“Our players have lots of international exposure and by the time they reach 21 years, which is the prime time of their judo career, we can expect medals from them,” he added.

Bajracharya further informed that the goodwill of NJA has helped the Nepali contestants in getting support from the international judo fraternity in the form of an international judo coach.

“The International Judo Federation (IJF) has appointed a Romanian judo coach Dan Telearca for us for a year. IJF will bear all the cost of his fees and tickets while NJA will pay for the local hospitality and transportation of the coach,” he said.

NJA To Deploy Advanced Technology

In a move towards adopting the new digital technology soon, NJA is sending two national experts, Suprasiddha Tamrakar and Rajiv Pradhan, to Indonesia for technical training, informed Bajracharya.

“Digital technology is fast replacing manual trend in officiating matches. So, we are equally concerned in this front. We are not just sending players abroad for exposure but also technical experts and coaches for enhancing their skills,” he said.

The Nepali U-19 cricket team’s attempt to play the ICC U-19 World Cup takes a hit as the team lost against the Afghanistan team in a match held in Singapore on Tuesday.

With this, the Nepal team remained at eight points. Whereas, the Afghan team, with 12 points, qualified for the World Cup match to be held in New Zealand in 2018.

While the first-batted Afghan team has set a score target of 196 runs, the Nepali team ended up at 40.3 over with just 99 runs, thus facing a 96-run defeat.

Poor batting performance is seen as a major reason behind the Nepali team’s failure in the match. All-rounder Dipendra Aire has proved his performance by scoring 48 runs, however, rest of the batsmen scored less.
