Ireland defeated Nepal by 13 runs in their match at the AI Amerat Stadium.

Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. The Ireland team began its batting line with PR Stirling and KJ O’Brien. Stirling’s 59 runs from 47 deliveries gave Ireland a good start to follow up with.

Following close behind, A Balbirnie scored another 38 runs from 28 deliveries. Furthermore, SR Thompson’s 21 runs added to Ireland’s big score of 145 runs in 20 overs.

In terms of bowling, MR Adair and GH Dockrell were the highest wicket takers for Ireland with each player picking three Nepali wickets, each.

Nepal Innings

Nepal made a decent start to its innings with Ishan Pandey and Captain Khadka scoring 22 and 25 runs from 30 and 14 deliveries, respectively.

Aarif Sheikh and DS Airee followed up with 26 and 19 runs from 26 and 20 deliveries. However, the remaining of the team failed to keep up the same pace and ended up with a total of 132 runs at a loss of all wickets.

Binod Bhandari’s performance today is worth-noting. Unlike the earlier two Nepal matches against Hong Kong and Netherlands, he was bowled out at a score as low as one run.

In the match against Hong Kong, he scored 58 runs from 48 deliveries, while in the match against Netherlands he scored 26 runs from 22 deliveries.

Overall, Nepal put up a good fight but failed to register the numbers. The Nepal team will be facing host-country Oman in their upcoming match on October 10, 2019.

Among bowlers, Sandeep Lamichhane and Ashish Boharaw were the highest wicket takers. Both players picked two Ireland wickets each for the Nepali team.

Matches Played

Ireland has played four matches as part of the ongoing series and won three matches against Netherlands, Oman, Hong Kong and Nepal.

On the other hand, Nepal has played three matches with Hong Kong, Netherlands and Ireland and won two matches against Hong Kong and Netherlands.

With this match, Ireland has reached the top of the points table (with six points), replacing Oman who is now at the second position. Nepal continues to stand at the third position with four points on the table.

The upcoming series is going to be the second ODI International series for Nepal and includes three ODIs and three T20 Internationals.

Adding to the team’s confidence, the spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane also returned home leaving the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Lamichhane has reportedly returned to Nepal to prepare for the scheduled series.

The spinner landed in Kathmandu on January 21, 2019, almost after a one-month period, completing his successful journey with the Big Bash League (BBL) of Australia and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In these two international cricket series, Lamichhane played four matches in Australia and six in Bangladesh.

With Lamichhane on board, the national team is scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi on January 22, 2019 for the Tri-Series.

“We are delighted to welcome Nepal to the UAE for this (ODI) tri-series, and we expect a strong performance from our team under the captaincy of Naveed. We are also very excited to take the match to a wider, international audience through live streaming, and we anticipate this will be exceptionally well received across the region,” says Waleed Bukhatir, Emirates Cricket Board Member and Chief Selector.

As per the schedule, ODI matches are scheduled for January 25, 26 and 28, 2019, while T20 matches will be held during January 31, February 1 and February 3, 2019.

All matches are going to be played at the ICC Academy (ICCA) at Dubai Sports City, starting from 9.30am (UAE time) on January 25, 2019.

The Nepali cricket team made a winning start by fighting out the Myanmar team by eight wickets in a match held in Kuala Lumpur as part of the ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier ‘B’ tournament.

Myanmar chose to bat first. However, it failed to face the Nepali spinning sensations Sandeep Lamichhane and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, who claimed a total of seven wickets smashing opponents by giving them just 29 runs in 10 overs.

While Lamichhane claimed four wickets in two overs, Rajbanshi took three in three overs.  Then, Nepal stepped in with its batting line-up!
The start was little jerking with the fall of opener Pradeep Airee in the very second ball and Anil Shah later after hitting a six and a four. But, KC made the rest by hitting 14 runs in 8 balls and remained not out, driving the team to success in a matter of 18 balls at the loss of just two wickets.

Lamichhane stood as the ‘Man of The Match’!

A win never gives relaxation! So, Nepal started gearing up for the second match of the tournament with Malaysia scheduled for October 6, 2018.

Challenge Ahead!
On the same day, Malaysia battled out Bhutan and Thailand won over China.

Now, the challenge ahead for Nepal is to make it in the ‘top three’ at the end of the round robin league on October 12, 2018, to qualify for the ICC World Twenty20 Asia Finals.

The top-three teams of Eastern region under the ‘Group B’ will join United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Kuwait, who are already qualified under the ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier ‘A’ for Western region.

Finally, the six-team qualifier round will see the ‘top two’ teams moving to the Global Qualifier round and the top six of the global round will make it to the ICC 2020 World Twenty20 Finals in Australia.

This tournament marks second such attempt for Nepal to qualify for ICC 2020 World T20 championship after its maiden attempt in 2014.

“As a team, we are eager after our last tournament did not go so well. We need to set certain standards for ourselves, but we won’t take anything easy. It is important we play well as a team because this is an opportunity to get to the next round and stay at the top of the tree for as long as possible,” says Paras Khadka, Captain of the Nepal National Cricket Team.
