]]>Citing the COVID-19 conundrum, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has cancelled Asia Qualifiers for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022.
With this, the Himalayan nation’s dream to play the World Cup has shattered. Along with Nepal, other Asian nations, including the UAE, Malaysia, Kuwait, Oman, and Singapore lost their chance to appear in the international tournament.
Likewise, the ICC cancelled qualification tournament of America and the East Asia Pacific (EAP).
However, the Council has decided to organize qualifiers of Europe and Africa.
As the American, Asian, and EAP Qualifiers have been cancelled, the ICC has selected the teams based on their performance in the last five World Cup Qualifiers.
Accordingly, the UAE from Asia, Papua New Guinea from the EAP, and Canada from the America have been automatically selected for the World Cup.

]]>The post Without county stars, Netherlands pick a strong squad for Kathmandu appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>The side will be led by Pieter Seelaar, the veteran of 235 matches for the national side across all formats, whose left-arm spin has earned him 222 wickets, 61 of them in the T20 format. These days Seelaar is also a dangerous middle order batsman, his best in the shortest form an unbeaten 49-ball 96 in a losing cause against Scotland in 2019.
But he and Campbell will be hoping that his batting won’t be needed too often in Kathmandu, with a top-order which features Max O’Dowd (with an overall strike rate in T20s of 126.66), Tobias Visée (152.22), Ben Cooper (128.68) and wicketkeeper Scott Edwards (140.65).
Less experienced than these five but also capable of making quick runs are Tonny Staal (HCC) and Bas de Leede (Voorburg), both of whom will be keen to take their claim to a regular place in the side, and the same applies to teenage left-hander Vikram Singh (VRA Amsterdam), who has just a single cap so far but who will doubtless add more during this tournament.
De Leede is likely too to augment a pace attack which will be led by Paul van Meekeren and Viv Kingma, both genuinely quick and menacing, supported by Sebastiaan Braat (Hermes-DVS Schiedam), who has also shown himself to be a useful lower-order batter.
Apart from Seelaar himself, the squad’s spin options include the leg-breaks of Voorburg’s Philippe Boissevain, while there are two uncapped spinners in the side: HBS Craeyenhout’s Julian de Mey and Aryan Dutt (Voorburg). Dutt batted in the top five for his club last season, while De Mey’s batting has improved markedly recently.
The Netherlands lead Nepal 5-2 across their meetings in the T20 format, but Nepal have won the last two, a dead rubber in the last game of a four-match series in the Netherlands in 2015, and their encounter in the Desert T20 tournament in Oman in 2019.
The Dutch have never met Malaysia in a T20 International before, their only completed match in any format a 9-wicket victory in the 1994 ICC Trophy tournament in Nairobi.
A warm-up match before the 1997 tournament in Malaysia was rained off with the Netherlands well on top. Playing at 1300-metre elevation in Kathmandu will be a considerable test for both the
visiting sides, as will the passionate support they can expect for the Nepalese. With Malaysia sitting a division below the hosts in the ICC hierarchy and the Dutch fielding what is mostly a second string side, Nepal may well start as favorites.
But Campbell and Bilal Asad, his Malaysian counterpart, will be looking to their players literally to rise to the occasion and to demonstrate how effectively they can adapt on the international stage.

He said the team’s preparation was satisfactory and is now good form compared to previous international tournaments.
“This time we arranged training in Indonesia, Malaysia and China, breaking the tradition of going to South Korea, and the players also got exposure in a couple of international events during the close camp training,” Shrestha said in a statement.
He said taekwondo will be the highest medal sport in the 13th South Asian Games and the matches will be held at Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur from December 1-10, 2019.
Taekwondo has been one of the successful sports for Nepal. The Nepali taekwondo team claimed all the 14 gold medals in the 8th SAG but failed to repeat the magic in 12th SAG.
“It’s true that we have not been able to produce the likes of Deepak Bista, Sangina Baidya, Manita Shahi and Ayasha Shakya in recent times, but the current squad has the caliber of matching their achievements,” says Shrestha.
“The way these players performed in China and Indonesia earlier this month, I am sure we will claim at least half of the total gold medals in the SA Games,” he added.
Taekwondo offers 29 gold medals — 13 in poomsae and 16 in kyorugi.

]]>In this 50-over ACC U-19 cricket match, Nepal batted first and set a score target of 186 runs for the Indian team with Dipendra Singh Airee alone scoring 88 runs.
Apart from Dipendra, Jitendra Singh (36) and Bhim Sarki (15) were those who scored double-digit in the Nepali team.
Then, the Indian cricket team made a good start with Himanshu Rana and Manjot Kalra who scored 60 runs in the first 10 overs.
However, the pace did not continue long because of a dashing bowling performance by Kamal Singh Airee of Nepal, who took the first wicket, of Rana’s, in the 13th over.
This gradually boosted the confidence levels of the Nepali team and Dipendra, who had performed well in batting, displayed his bowling performance also by taking the last three wickets driving the Indian team to defeat with 11 balls remaining.
Pawan Sarraf (2) and Shahab Alam (2) were among other Nepali bowlers who performed well after Dipendra (4).
India finally lost the match to Nepal at 48.1 overs with 166 runs.
“Rahul Dravid, the Indian U-19 cricket coach, congratulated us. He said we deserved this win as much as anybody else. He also said we played better than anybody else in the tournament. We are happy he acknowledges our effort. We are thrilled to have his support with us,” said Binod Kumar Das, the Nepali U-19 cricket coach.
This is the sixth attempt that is coming as a great encouragement for the Nepali cricket team after facing a series of defeats against the Indian team in two U-19 World Cup and three U-19 Asia Cup matches.
Earlier to this match, Nepal had lost against Bangladesh and is now heading for its next fight with the Malaysian
U-19 team in its final group match on November 13, 2017.

]]>The post Nepal’s Biggest Festival Season: Surge in Nepalese Returning Home for Celebrations appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>The most-awaited Nepal’s biggest festival season has set in creating a joyful environment across the country.
The special season, which began with the arrival of the 15-day long Bada Dashain on September 21, 2017, and will be followed by Tihar and Chhath, started witnessing a large number of Nepalese traveling to and from Nepal for their festival celebrations.
“The number of people returning home usually goes up during the festive season. Nepalese living abroad, a majority of migrant workers, return home for Dashain and Tihar festivals. This is a normal trend almost every year,” says Prakash Neupane, a Senior Immigration Officer at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
According to TIA’s Online Immigration Database, around 34,690 Nepalese returned home from various foreign destinations between September 17 and September 23, 2017, while 24,175 Nepalese left the country during the same period.
Around 4,921 Nepalese returned home on the very first day of Dashain on September 21, 2017. Surprisingly, the number increased to 15,626 by September 23, 2017 i.e. within two days after the festival beginning.
According to official data, 5,432 and 5,282 Nepalese passed through the TIA immigration office on September 22 and September 23, respectively.
Majority of these arrivals were seen from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Malaysia and the United Arab of Emirates.
On the other side, the festival season is also witnessing a significant rise in the number of migrant workers leaving the country.
According to the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), 13,295 Nepali migrant workers applied for outbound travel between September 17 and September 24.
The data covering the last seven days shows that 3,687 migrant workers have applied for work permits in Qatar, followed by UAE (2,979), Malaysia (2,759), Saudi Arabia (2,352) and Kuwait (629).
“This drop during this time of the year is normal. The number will go up once the festival is over,” says DoFE Spokesperson Adhikari.
Meanwhile, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) yesterday urged the Government of Nepal to ensure smooth delivery of services during the festivals.
CIAA directed the government officials and other consumer-based organisations to take possible measures in this regard.
Chief Deep Basnyat urged the officials to be alert with regard to issues concerning peace, security and food supply, and also suggested them to conduct regular market monitoring activity. He called on officials to work in coordination to address public grievances on time.
The Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, Kathmandu has prepared to deploy around 5,000 police personnel in the Kathmandu Valley, to ensure peace and security during the festival season covering Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
Besides Nepali police help desks, special security forces have also been deployed at hotels, bus points, across the Valley.
