]]>The final round of the 67th Miss Universe competition held in Bangkok announced Gray as winner out of 93 contestants.
Gray was her sparkling self in a beautiful glittering red grown when she received the prestigious crown. She explained that the gown was inspired by a volcano in the Philippines, iconic Mayon Volcano.
Gray emerged beauty queen, leaving behind runners-up South Africa’s Tamaryn Green and Venezuela’s Sthefany Gutierrez.
An elated Gray stood both smiling, surprised and teary-eyed as Miss Universe 2017 South Africa’s Demi-Leigh-Nel-Peters placed the studded-crown over her head.
Celebrations in Philippines’ Oas town, which is Gray’s mother’s hometown were held on a grand scale and the Office of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte congratulated Gray on her achievement.
“Ms. Gray truly made the entire Philippines proud when she sashayed on the global stage and showcased the genuine qualities defining a Filipina beauty: confidence, grace, intelligence and strength in the face of tough challenges. In her success, Miss Philippines has shown to the world that women in our country have the ability to turn dreams into reality through passion, diligence, determination and hard work,” he said in a statement from the Presidential Palace.
Gray is the fourth Filipina women to be named Miss Universe. Beauty pageants are popular attractions in the Philippines.
Touching upon a sensitive issue back in her town, the newly-crowned Miss Universe was asked about legalizing Marijuana. And Gray gave a smart reply stating, “I’m for it being used for medical use, but not so for recreational use. Because I think if people will argue, then what about alcohol and cigarettes? Everything is good but in moderation.”
The theme of Miss Universe 2018 was “Empowered Women” and included the first-ever transgender contestant, Spain’s Angela Ponce.
Speaking about her participation in the prestigious event Ponce said that it was not important for her to win but more important for her “to be here”.
The beauty pageant was judged by seven women including former pageant winners, businesswomen and a fashion designer.
About Gray
Catriona Gray is born to a Filipina mother and Australian father. She was raised in Cairns, Australia, and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the United States.
Recently, the Miss World 2018 contest also concluded with Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce De Leon winning title. Nepal was among the final 12 contestants.
Miss Nepal Universe 2018 Manita Devkota in Top 10
Nepal’s Manita Devkota represented her country at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant. Her performance at the pageant placed her in the Top 10 Miss Universe 2018 contestants, a position that even Miss Nepal World contestant Shrinkhala Khatiwada couldn’t catch up to.
One of her significant moments at the pageant was her ‘national costume’, which was inspired by the Goddess Avalokitesvara – the deity who guards the universe between the departure and return of the great Gautham Buddha.
During the ‘evening gown competition’, she looked gorgeous in a white and orange asymmetrical ombre gown. However, the situation turned ugly for the beauty queen, when she stumbled towards the end of the runway.
Devkota was quick to regain her composure, but spectators on social media attribute her exit from Top 5 owing to this unfortunate incident.
23-year old Manita Devkota was born in Gorkha district and moved to USA when she was eight. She has a graduate degree in Public Health and supports two causes.
She works with organizations Days for Girls Nepal and She’s the First Foundation. While the former works to empower girls and women in terms of menstrual health challenges, the later aims to fight gender equality against children. Recently, the Miss World 2018 contest also concluded with Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce De Leon winning the title. Nepal was among the final 12 contestants.
The future of Nepal in international beauty pageants look promising with these Nepal representatives’ close endeavors to the prestigious crowns.

]]>Ahead of the 67th Miss Universe beauty pageant grand finale on December 17, 2018, the Miss Universe 2018 National Costume Contest was held at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province of Thailand on
December 10, 2018.
Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha welcomed the Miss Universe organizers and contestants to the country on December 10, 2018 and offered them a tour of Government House.
The Miss Universe delegation included Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart and Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Gen Prayut said the beauty contest was beyond physical appearance, reflecting the inner beauty of the contestants. In this regard, he urged the Miss Universe Thailand 2018 Sophida Kanchanarin to be a good host for the upcoming grand finale event.

]]>In a recent update, Nepal’s renowned organization for beauty pageants, The Hidden Treasure (THT), announced the 23rd edition of the country’s largest nationwide beauty pageant Miss Nepal 2018.
“The pageant will provide young women a lifetime of opportunity to begin their journey of becoming celebrities and role-models by winning the coveted top four titles and bringing international crowns home,” THT said in a statement.
The audition for this national beauty contest has been planned at different locations including Birgunj, Birtamod, Dhangadi, Dharan, Chitwan, Pokhara, Butwal and Nepalgunj during February 4-10, 2018.
The final round of the audition, to be held in Kathmandu on February 17, 2018, will see 25 finalists who will further undergo a rigorous training before a grand finale at Hotel De Annapurna in Kathmandu on April 11, 2018.
At the end of the season, four finalists will be chosen to represent the nation across international beauty pageants including Miss World 2018, Miss Universe 2018, Miss Earth 2018 and Miss International 2018.
It is noteworthy that Nepal has recently made its participation in key international beauty contests, wherein, the country’s Miss World contestant Nikita Chandak won a direct entry into the Top 30 of the global beauty pageant.
Nagma Shrestha is another key Nepali contestant who contested for the 66th Miss Universe contest held at Las Vegas, USA on November 26, 2017.
