]]>As every time, the Valley is witnessing crowds of people leaving it for their homes for Dashain festival celebrations.
According to the reports, nearly 2.1 million people have already left the Valley so far and another 1.6 lakh are most likely to leave in a day or two.
On an average, nearly 2.5 million people are leaving the Valley daily and the number is going to rise further till Mahaasthami.
“Over 2.1 million people have already gone home through Thankot, Dakshinkali, Jagati and Balaju entry points since Ghatasthapana and 1.62 lakh, who have booked flights, are expected to leave in a day or two,” says Raj Kumar Lamsal, Spokesperson for Metropolitan Traffic Police Division Superintendent of Police.
While around 9,000 vehicles operate in the Valley usually, this festive season is witnessing a total number of 17,000 vehicles including buses, mini vans, among others transporting the passengers daily since a week.
The government has set up passenger held desks across 13 centers for easy mobilization of travellers.
Besides, the government has also taken strict measures to ensure safety transport of passengers considering the usual trend of high road accidents during the festival season.
The last three years’ statistics report as many as 322 road accidents between Ghatasthapana and Kojagrat Purnima days in 2015, 355 in 2016 and 382 in 2017, resulting in deaths of 92, 101 and 104 people, respectively.

]]>In a move tapping the tourism potential of Ligligkot of Gorkha Municipality, Ligligkot Development Initiative (LDI) is organizing the annual Liglig Daud in Gorkha region on October 14, 2018.
The annual festival that is held during the Dashain festival has been coming from generations and is built around a myth that the winner of this race will be crowned as the king of the region for one-year period.
Even Nepali historians believe with that fact that the Ligligkot State of Gorkha chose their king through the Liglig Daud in the 17th century.
Continuing the historical significance, LDI has been conducting the race since 2010 and the 2018 race will see the champion bagging the ‘King of Liglikot’ title for the first time since 2010.
“He will wear the king’s crown besides lifting the trophy. He will also be made the goodwill ambassador of Ligligkot for one year,” says LDI President Purna Bahadur Rana.
The competition involves four categories: 13.8 km open race (Liglig Daud), women’s 5 km race, 13.8 km run for the locals, and 5km race among school boys and girls.
The organizers are expecting 200 runners for the 2018 race, which will start at Chepe Ghat and finishes at the Ligligkot Palace.
Besides trophy, the winners and the runners will also be awarded cash prizes.

]]>In view of increasing demand during the festive season, the state-owned Nepal Airlines is gearing up plans to offer seamless connectivity to remote locations of the country.
Towards this end, the national flag carrier has already conducted test flights to hilly regions of the country such as Talcha, Simikot, Lukla, Dolpa and Jumla, on September 25-26, 2018.
Further, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is planning another test to Jomsom on September 27, 2018.
“We are just testing the suitability of flying Y12e aircraft to the remote destinations and will soon schedule regular flights based on the results of the test flights,” Madan Kharel, Executive Chairperson of NAC.
Following the last test on September 27, 2018, the team will submit the final performance report to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) seeking approval for running regular flights, adds Kharel.
“The report to be submitted to CAAN will include all relevant details, like maximum number of passengers per flight, baggage weight per person, wind condition and other weather-related matters. Our plan is to resume flights to viable remote domestic destinations before Dashain,” Kharel noted.
