]]>The government endorsed the proposal to stop ‘VNY2020’ in a cabinet meeting on March 1, 2020.
Likewise, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai informed that the government has decided to put on hold all the international promotional campaigns for ‘Visit Nepal 2020’.
Meanwhile, in another meeting headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel, the government declared temporary suspension of visa on arrival from March 7, 2020.
Moreover, the Nepali Government cancelled the first-ever Sagarmatha Sambaad that is scheduled to be held from 2 to 4 April 2020.
The Nepali Government’s response to coronavirus comes amid the fears that the country is at high risk of coronavirus outbreak.
So far, only one coronavirus case has been confirmed in Nepal. A Nepali student, who had returned from China, tested positive for coronavirus. However, he is totally cured now.
Even the 175 Nepali evacuees airlifted from coronavirus-hit China, who have been isolated in Kharipati, tested negative for the coronavirus.
Even though there have been no other reported cases so far, Nepal lacks the minimum healthcare facilities and procedures to combat the coronavirus infection if it enters the nation. As of now, coronavirus has spread to more than 60 countries killing over 3,000 people and infecting over 88,000 people.
China, the epicenter of coronavirus outbreak, reported 2,192 deaths and 80,026 infection cases.
Countries outside China have confirmed 9,049 infection cases and 141 death cases.
