]]>Despite his success in the field of music, he took a break from the industry for over 30 years to focus on his career in the civil services.
After retirement, Thapa’s love for eastern classical music prompted him to study music formally beginning at the age of 64. He studied under the tutelage of classical vocalist Prabhu Raj Dhakal for nine years and also completed his Bachelor of Music degree in singing from the Prayag Sangeet Samiti in Allahabad, India.
Some of Thapa’s popular albums showcasing his talent as a composer, writer and singer include Chalis Barsha Aghi Ra Chalis Barsha Pachi, Maanko Shanti and Maya Lukai Lukdaina.
Thapa, who liked Indian singer Usha Mangeshkar’s voice in the song Namaana Laaza Yesari in the 1966 Nepali classic movie Maitighar, wanted to collaborate with her in one of his albums. He realized this wish when the duo worked together on the album Ma Pathjhad Thiye recently.

]]>As a part of campaign move, the movie team is organizing a one-day campaign titled, Signature Movie: Think Positive, Think Global, on July 8, 2017, at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi.
Organized by the Red Circle Creative, the event will witness screening of the movie, and is intended to spread a word on positive thinking.
A psychological counselling session, blood donation, distribution of contraceptives to the participants are other highlights of the event.
‘Signature’ stars include Binod Paudel, Sandip Chhetri, Jiwansathi Basnet, Namrata Sapkota, Nirnaya Shrestha and Sarita Giri, among others.
The movie team planned its second campaign in Pokhara.

]]>Rauniyar is a Fellow of Berlinale Talents [2012], TIFF Talent Lab [2013], Asian Cultural Council [2013] and Rotterdam Lab [2014]. He worked with the BBC World Service Trust in Nepal, in writing and directing several award-winning radio dramas.
Highway, his debut film as director, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012 and became the first Nepali film to be screened at a major international festival. BBC highlighted the landmark event saying that, “It has taken nearly 50 years for a Nepali film to be shown at a major global film festival, for an industry which produces over 80 films a year.” Harvard University included the film in the syllabus of their world cinema course.
Rauniyar’s second film White Sun, set during the time of Nepal’s civil war, was released in 2016 and received rave reviews. It has been screened in over 50 international film festivals.
He is currently working on his next film Raja, a socially rooted police thriller, with development support from the Hubert Bals Fund.

]]>The band has released nine albums to date and has performed live in many countries across the world including the UK, the USA, Australia, Israel, Germany, Finland and India. After the success of their tour to Australia a few years ago, they are all set to perform once again in the country later this month in a series of concerts. Gurung, the lead performer and driving force behind the team, says that they carry a message of love to all the Nepalis living away from their homeland.
As part of Nepathya’s silver jubilee celebrations that are scheduled until April 1, 2018, several activities including the release of new songs and videos of some old songs have been planned. A biography of Nepathya penned by Gurung will also be released during the year.

]]>Nikita came to know about the Miss Nepal pageant when she visited Kathmandu to participate in the Nepal Fashion Week last year. Grabbing the opportunity that she got, Nikita entered the contest.
Though she was not among the initial favorites to win the pageant, Nikita impressed the judges and audience with her confident demeanor and intellectual outlook. She won over 18 other contestants and claimed the crown, while also winning the Miss Popular Choice and Miss Confident titles.
She attributes her success to the support and encouragement from her family. The traditionally conservative Marwari community has also reacted warmly to the news of her winning the crown.
Nikita is optimistic of putting up a good performance at the Miss World pageant in China later this year. She hopes to pursue a career as an actress in movies subsequently.
Nikita Chandak’s message to the youth is to follow their dreams with positivity, passion and faith in order to achieve their aspirations. She plans to use the social media to reach out to Nepalis across the world.

]]>In a recent interview Hamal said that the script writing for the film is currently in progress and once it is done they will begin the production process. He mentioned that the film would have a combination of entertainment along with a social message. He said that he liked the movie ‘Jatra’ and commended it as an ideal film for its entertainment value and its representation of certain socially prevalent issues.
Hamal said that the cast and crew of his movie would be finalized after the first chapter of the screenplay.
Rajesh Hamal, who is known for his influencing personality, his trademark long hair and the positive atmosphere that he brings in with his mere presence, was last seen on screen in a cameo role for the sci-fi thriller ‘Bijuli Machine’.
