Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the embassy said it took note of the recent case of assault on a Nepali Uber driver in San Francisco. It also thanked the American people and the law enforcement agencies for bringing the culprits to book.
The embassy condemned all kinds of violence and discrimination against any racial group, and expressed faith that justice will be delivered soon.
Meanwhile, the embassy also urged Nepalis living in the US to abide by the laws of the land and respect American culture.
The spate of attacks in recent weeks has mobilized several thousand people on the streets, protesting against racially motivated violence. New York saw the biggest such rally. Several rights groups also expressed their concern over increasing instances of hate crime.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden condemned the attacks on people of Asian origin in the country.

Speaking about the initiative while emphasizing on Indo-Nepal relations, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) Managing Director Kausar J Hilaly said, “The economic cooperation can bring the people of both the countries much closer.”
Nepal, a hot tourist destination, is looking forward to establishing tourist exchange with Assam and is offering packages and direct flights between Kathmandu and Guwahati as part of its tourism promotion activities.
During the event, Nepal Embassy Fiscal Counsellor Umakant Acharya gave a presentation on the tourism sector highlighting the opportunities, prospects and benefits of creating tourism packages for tourists that benefit both regions.
Acharya also urged the business community to invest in Nepal as he also assured them of government support for boosting business relations.
Bharat Kumar Regmi, Nepal Embassy Charge d’affaires said, “India and Nepal have been enjoying a good relationship from the Vedic period. There is so much commonality between Nepal and Assam as far as tourism is concerned. The Kamakhya temple in Assam and Pashupatinath temple in Nepal- both are the most attractive religious pilgrimage sites.”
A large number of tourists visiting Nepal can be offered a combined package tour to visit Assam and the Northeast, and tour operators from the city can tie up with travel agents in Nepal to provide services like adventure tourism, adds Regmi.
Strengthening his stance further, Regmi talks about Nepal’s political and economic status and pitched on the need to invest in Nepal.
FICCI Northeast Advisory Council senior member Ashish Phookan was among the other dignitaries present at the event.
The Assam Government is leaving no stone unturned as part of its promotion initiatives and is planning to rope in Bollywood diva of International fame Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador for its tourism program.

]]>Nepal is keen on leveraging the potential of the Indian port city, Vishakhapatnam, thereby boosting its trade ties with India.
This was evident in ‘Nepal-India Trade Transit and connectivity: Issues and Facilities’, a workshop jointly organised by the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and India’s Institute for Defense Studies and Analysis (IDSA), in Vishakhapatnam, on Tuesday.
The workshop focused on trade, transit and connectivity between India and Nepal.
In his inaugural address at the event, Deep Kumar Upadhyaya, Nepali Ambassador to India expressed Nepali traders’ willingness to leverage the potential of highly-advanced port facilities in Vishakhapatnam, for their transit operations.
He added that India, besides being the biggest trade partner of Nepal, is also a major transit country for Nepal’s trade with other countries.
Speaking on the occasion, M T Krishna Babu, Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port, requested the Government of Nepal to set up a Consulate office in Vishakhapatnam.
“Though geographically Kolkata/Haldia may be nearer to Nepal, Vizag may work out cheaper considering other factors and advantages here,” said Krishna Babu, while noting that Nepal’s trade from Vishakhapatnam is still at a nascent stage.
Container terminal in Vishakhapatnam port would benefit Indo-Nepal trade, he noted.

]]>Two-day discussions with the New Delhi-based Nepali diplomats was one significant part of the trip, where the Minister reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) membership, and explained them the significance of the same. Highlighting the country’s recent socio-political transformation, the Minister noted that this is the right time for Nepal to become the council member.
Bharat Raj Poudyal, head of the UN body at MoFA, while briefing the current human rights scenario in Nepal, said, “Nepal deserves the membership”. The other senior officials at the meeting also felt that Nepal’s entry would add significance to the council in shaping the human rights agenda.
The briefing held at Nepal Embassy, New Delhi, witnessed the participation of the ambassadors from 35 countries to Nepal. The representatives from Zambia, Cuba, Czech Republic, and Venezuela pledged their support for Nepal’s entry into UNHRC.
