]]>The stakeholders of the judiciary who demanded the Chief Justice resign have accused him of compromising during the Prime Ministerial tenures of KP Oli and Sher Deuba.
Due to this issue, the majority of the supreme court justices have decided not to hear cases. This was done to add more pressure on the Chief Justice to make him resign.
The dissident judges met Rana today, and the Chief Justice told them that he won’t despite the demands arising from the people around him.
He battened down on his defense, stating that other justices were embroiled in controversies, and it was not fair for him to resign alone. “If all involved in the dispute resign, that can be thought of,” he said, “If not, you cannot resign just because there’s a demand from the street.”
The Chief Justice also stated he would stick to the constitutional stipulation, which dictated the Chief Justice’s appointment and termination.

The writ was petitioned by the rival faction of CPN-UML, who sought to reinstate the dissolved HoR.
The case was presided over by a constitutional bench which earlier formed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
The apex court has adjourned the hearing of this case to June 23.

]]>Gopal Prasad Parajuli was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Nepal. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, at a special ceremony at the office of the President in Sheetal Niwas on Monday.
Parajuli, who was officiating as acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Chief Justice Sushila Karki on June 6, 2017, will head the judiciary till April 28, 2018.
In his comments, Parajuli recalled the widespread discontent about the slow justice delivery in Nepal and said that he has prepared a 39-point action plan pertaining to judicial reforms in the country. He added that, “The Supreme Court would remain in touch with the Nepal Bar Association in this regard”.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Speaker Onsari Gharti, chiefs of constitutional bodies and judges of the Supreme Court among others.
