Following Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun’s directions, the state-owned Hydro-electricity Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL) created the scheme to welcome maximum people’s participation in the development of these government projects.

According to the scheme, people can now buy shares by paying 10 percent of the original cost at the initial public offering. The remaining amount can be paid in a 50:40 ratio where 50 percent will be paid prior to 80% of construction progress and 40 percent has to be paid when the project is almost due for completion.

“If the public is allowed to make investments this way, the financial burden will be less, and a larger section of the population can invest in such projects. Also, the people will feel that their investment is secure as they will be making payments in installments based on the progress of construction works,” Therefore, we came up with this scheme,” says Chhabi Raj Pokharel HIDCL CEO.

In the meantime, HIDCL has shortlisted 19 government-owned projects that need public investments including 725 MW Upper Arun, 450 MW Kimathanka Arun, 101 MW Tamakoshi-5 and 48 MW Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose projects.

Nepali Ambassador to Bahrain Padam Sundas interacted with the local Nepali community including representatives of various organizations and the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) at the Nepali Embassy in Manama on July 6, 2018.

As part of the meet, the Nepali envoy called on Nepalis in Bahrain to properly utilize their incomes in Bahrain in order to start investing in their home country.

In this meet organized by the Deputy Chief of Mission Khagaraj Adhikari, Chartered Accountant Ramesh Dhital highlighted Nepal’s economic indicators, investment potential, related procedures & tax policies along with key areas of focus for making investment.

Investment from Japan
In another interesting update, the Nepali Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) welcomed Japanese investment in the country’s energy sector.

In a program organized by the Ministry, Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun called on the Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masamichi Saigo to push for Japanese investment in Nepal’s Nalgadh hydropower project.

In the discussion, Pun informed Saigo that the project is one of the priorities for Nepal Government and is in a ready-to-develop condition.

We expect the Japanese Government to invest in the energy sector of Nepal and we also believe that the Japanese Government will help Nepal with financial assistance in the form of grants, soft loans and investments, Pun said in a statement.

This move is part of Nepal’s Government’s efforts to mark the 2018-2028 period as the ‘Decade of Energy and Hydropower’ under its ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ goal.
