The new rule received a positive public response on the very first day and a majority of the public refrained from beeping their vehicle horns in a traffic jam at Prithvi Chok.

Whereas a few who continued were informed by the traffic police about the new rule.

“We are excited about how the vehicle operators supported us in implementing the rule by not beeping unnecessarily on the first day,” said Bishwo Raj Adhikari, Kaski Traffic Police Chief. After all, the benefit of curbing sound pollution ultimately goes to the city dwellers and tourists, he added.

The traffic police stationed at various locations informed drivers about the new rule instead of imposing fine. The authorities are hopeful that the city would soon become a ‘horn-free zone’ if the drivers continue to extend their support.

The traffic police also informed that they will continue with the awareness drive for a week, and then start imposing fine on the offenders.

Some members of the public are of the view that the rule will not remain because of the city’s poor road infrastructure.
