]]>According to the Nepal Martial Self-Defense Association (NMSDA) Central Chair DB Ranapal from Morocco, the martial arts tournament saw Nepali martial arts team members Arjun Rokka of Solukhumbu and Sanju Maharjan bagging two gold and silver medals each.
The championship was organized by the Martial Self-Defense International Association Portugal in Morocco.
The seven-member Nepali team includes Ranapal and first Vice-Chair Nutan Shrestha, among others.
Meanwhile, the Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) also won the recently-held eighth Korean Ambassador Open National Taekwondo Tournament.
The Taekwondo championship held at the Nepal Taekwondo Academy, Lalitpur saw TAC winning nine gold, four silver and 12 bronze medals.
While a total of five gold, two silver and six bronze medals were registered under the men’s category, the women’s category saw four gold, two silver and six bronze winners.
Nepal Police Club made it to the second position in the tournament bagging three gold and a silver medal in men’s category, and three gold, a silver and two bronze medals in the women’s category.
Nepal Taekwondo Association Vice-presidents Bhoj Bahadur Shah and Nandu Rai, and the National Sports Council Vice-president Lama Tendi Sherpa were present at the award ceremony.
This Taekwondo championship was jointly organized by the Nepal Taekwondo Association and South Korean Embassy in Nepal.

]]>After making its mark at the World Powerlifting Championship and marking its grand entry at the recently-held International Toastmaster Contest 2017 with 24 awards, Nepal is again in news for leading the way at the International Paragliding Tournament 2017.
In the international paragliding competition, held in Swarek of Syangja (Nepal) from November 1-6, 2017, Nepali paragliders led the way by bagging all the awards on offer at the competition.
The awards were categorized by overall event, accuracy and cross-country events, both in men and women categories.
Nepal Air Sports Association, Babu Adventure Club and Nepal Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association organized the competition and more than 300 players from 20 different countries including Nepal, China, India, Bangladesh, Britain, Spain, France, Venezuela and Switzerland, among others, participated in the tournament.
Krishna Bahadur Sunar won the men’s overall event category followed by Madan Kumar Sunar and Bimal Adhikari, while Rikhi Pode, followed by Yubaraj Sunar and Bimal Adhikari, led the men’s accuracy event category.
Bishal Thapa, Krishna Bahadur Sunar and Nisim Thapa stood in top-three positions in the men’s cross-country event.
Women’s overall and accuracy events saw B Singtan in the leading position, followed by Sabita Tamang and Nikita Sunar.
In the women’s cross-country event, Nikita Sunar lead the way followed by Tamang and Singtan in the first runner-up and second runner-up positions, respectively.
The competition also selected top-three pilots in the Tandem category with Bishal Thapa standing first, followed by Prem Timalsina and Alice Thapa in the second and third positions, respectively.
“We will select the national team from the shortlisted candidates by organizing another selection competition within a few months,” says Sanobabu Sunar, Chief Coach of Babu Adventure Club, one of the key organizers of the competition.
According to Sunar, Nepali gliders will participate in the paragliding event of the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia, in 2018. “Seven out of 21 male pilots will be selected for the Asian Games, while five female pilots will be selected for the competition,” he informed.
“Nepal paragliders will participate in international arena for the first time, next year. An opportunity to participate in an international paragliding competition is itself a huge achievement,” says Khagraj Paudel, President of the Regional Sports Development Committee.
