]]>The Valley has witnessed a heavy downpour in the wee hours of today from 2 AM to 6 AM.
According to meteorologist Kumar Aryal, Kathmandu has recorded 105 mm of rainfall, inundating more than 100 places in just 4 hours.
The coastal areas including Bagmati, Dhobikhola, Bishnumati, Manhora, and Hanumante rivers have overflown due the floods.
The corridors of Anamnagar, Kalopul, Ratopul, Balkhu and other riverside areas of Kathmandu Valley have been inundated.
Likewise, the flash floods have inundated the fruit and vegetable market of Balkhu.
According to Metropolitan Police Office Spokesperson Sushil Singh Rathore, a total of 385 houses have been inundated this morning.
“Areas including Tankeshwor, Teku, Dallu, Balkhu, Tachal, Bhimsensthan, Naya Buspark, Chabahil, Machha Pokhari, Kalopul, and Jorpati were largely inundated by the flash floods,” said Rathore.
“Rescue work was carried out at Mulpani settlements on the bank of Manohara River, Kadagari, Teku and Balkhu areas, informed Rathore.
Meanwhile, the floods in Myagdi district on Sunday night have swept away the Darkhola Hydropower Project II located in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-2.
The powerhouse and the canal of the 42 KW hydropower project have been washed away.

]]>Marking 223rd week of the Bagmati Mega Clean-Up Campaign, the Nepal River Conservation Trust and Friends Club Kupondole organized the Bagmati river festival or Maha Jal Yatra on August 19, 2017.
The festival that took place on the bank of Bagmati River in Kupondole saw a huge public participation.
Various programmes including art competition, rickshaw ride, horse ride and photo art exhibition were organized as part of the festival, of which, rafting activity on the river from Thapathali to Sundarighat in Kirtipur drew special public attention.
On the occasion, attendees also lit candles and left them in the river in memory of those killed in Tarai floods.
Culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi, who inaugurated the festival, said, “The Bagmati river is in a terrible state due our negligence. I am glad that people from different walks of life have gradually started to understand the significance of this holy river.”
He went to say that conserving the Bagmati river and restoring it to its original pristine state will mean preserving Nepali civilization and culture.
Nepal’s Ambassador to China Leela Mani Paudyal, who initiated the Bagmati clean-up drive on May 18, 2013 during his tenure as the Chief Secretary of Nepal Government, lauded huge public presence at the event.
“If we take the responsibility of cleaning this river on our own shoulders then it won’t take long to achieve our goal,” said Paudyal.
