October 27, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n The 11th<\/sup> edition of the biennial documentary film festival \u2018Film Southasia\u2019 is scheduled to be held from November 2, 2017 at Lalitpur. The four-day FSA\u201917 event, with the theme \u2018Documentary Bears Witness\u2019, will showcase 63 documentaries from the eight SAARC countries, and Myanmar.<\/p>\n The festival, in its 20th year of existence, will screen 45 films in the competitive section which will vie for the Ram Bahadur Trophy for the Best Film with a prize money of USD 2000.<\/p>\n Entries from Nepal<\/strong><\/p>\n The six films from Nepal in the competitive category are \u2018Even When I Fall\u2019 by Sky Neal & Kate McLarnon (2017), \u2018Satisal In Inferno\u2019 by Pranay Limbu & Damber Krishna Shrestha (2017), \u2018Daughters of the Curved Moon\u2019 by Miranda Morton Yap & Sophie Dia Pegrum (2016), \u2018Hospital\u2019 by Kesang Tseten (2016), \u2018Save Gangamaya\u2019 by Gopal Shivakoti (2016) and Trembling Mountain by Kesang Tseten (2016).<\/p>\n Foreign Films<\/strong><\/p>\n Some of the foreign films competing for the honors include \u2018A Delicate Weave\u2019 by Anjali Monteiro & KP Jayasankar (India, 2017), \u2018A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness\u2019 by Sharmeen Obain Chinoy (Pakistan, 2015), \u2018Afghanistan Night Stories\u2019 by Alka Sadat (Afghanistan, 2016), \u2018Burma Storybook\u2019 by Petr Lom & Corinne van Egeraat (Myanmar, 2017), \u2018Demons in Paradise\u2019 by Jude Ratnam (Sri Lanka, 2017) and \u2018Workers Voice\u2019s by Chaumtoli Huq & Mohammad Romel (Bangladesh, 2015).<\/p>\n Other Categories<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2018Split Ends\u2019 by Rajan Kathet of Nepal would be one of the six Student Films at FSA\u201917 competing for the Best Student Film award of USD 500. Some of the other awards at the fest are the UNICEF award for the Best Film on Children\u2019s issues\u00a0and the Tareq Masud award for Best Debut Film.<\/p>\n The remaining 12 films will be screened in the special non-competitive section, \u2018Documentaries of Dissent\u2019.<\/p>\n In a press release, the festival organizers said, \u201cFSA\u201917 brings to Nepal the finest documentaries on South Asian subjects produced over the previous two years in a bid to inform, entertain and help promote transformative thinking.
