The progress report for fiscal 2016\/17 submitted recently to the Department of Forest by the Kathmandu District Forest Officer Indra Prasad Sapkota shows that the District Forest Office (DFO) was successful in meeting 98 percent of the target on forest conservation and 100 percent of the target on wildfire management.<\/p>\n

The DFO which implemented and renewed the forest management action plan for 14 community forests, exceeded its targets in timber production, tree plantation and wildlife rescue.<\/p>\n

It produced 14,492 cubic feet of timber against a target of 10,000 cubic feet. Tree plantation was accomplished in 12.36 hectares of land though only 0.5 hectares had been planned. The DFO also registered 20 incidents of wildlife rescue, double the original target and met the target for distribution of plants to individual households.<\/p>\n

The Department of Forest and the Kathmandu DFO had signed a target-oriented contract to increase the accountability of the forest administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
